CityRail Future Metro Line Plans
Показать описание
On the 20th, June 2012 The Liberal NSW State Government announced that it would become a Public-Private Partnership built and operated Metro-style line. As a result, the line will utilise single deck rolling stock.
As part of Sydney's Rail Future, at least 12 trains an hour will run on the North West Rail Link during peak periods -- or one every five minutes.
There will be no need for a timetable - just turn up to one of the eight new stations planned for the north west and catch the next train.
New generation, single deck heavy rail trains will deliver a fast, safe and reliable journey for commuters.
As part of Sydney's Rail Future, the NSW Government has announced that planning will start on a second heavy rail crossing of Sydney Harbour.
Once finished, trains from the North West will use this second harbour crossing to take customers direct to the Sydney CBD.
While this crossing is being delivered, customers on the North West Rail Link will simply cross the platform at Chatswood to change to the existing network.
Train timetables will be organised to ensure you only need to wait a few moments to switch from one train to another.
There will be no need to take stairs or escalators to change trains.
There will be a train every three minutes to the city during the peak.
This means customers on the North West Rail Link will now benefit from:
A train every five minutes at peak times;
No need for a timetable -- just turn up and go;
Fast, single deck, high frequency trains between Cudgegong Rd and Chatswood;
Eight new stations;
Epping to Chatswood rail line converted for these trains;
Interchange with existing network at Chatswood -- walk across the platform;
New-generation trains for the North West first -- before any other Sydney lines; and
Planning work to extend line from Chatswood to CBD via a second harbour crossing starts immediately.
The new generation trains will mean faster services to Chatswood than previously planned because modern single deck trains
are quicker at picking up and dropping off passengers than double deck carriages.
The North West Rail Link will deliver a reliable heavy rail public transport service that takes people off congested roads and gets customers to their destination faster.
This means no more unpredictable peak hour bus trips.
The North West Rail Link will deliver a fast and reliable link between the major employment centres of Norwest, Castle Hill, Macquarie Park and Chatswood.
Trips on single deck trains are expected to be about 10 per cent faster than the double deckers.
The trip from Cudgegong Road to Chatswood is expected to take about 37 minutes on a new, single deck high-frequency train.
This compares to about 41 minutes to do the same journey on a double deck train.
A journey from the North West to the Sydney CBD is expected to take just under one hour -- including changing trains at Chatswood.
This journey will be much more reliable on a daily basis than current bus travel, with peak hour bus trips unpredictable because of road congestion and delays.
It is common for bus journeys to the CBD to take more than 90 minutes because of congestion.
Importantly, about one-third of customers are expected to get off the train before -- or at -- Chatswood.
That's because they are travelling to major jobs precincts on Sydney's Global Economic Arc -- like Macquarie Park, Norwest and Chatswood itself as well as key education centres like Macquarie University.
