Exactly the same here in Cornwall the locals can not afford to rent or buy as the prices have risen so much and all the little harbours are like ghost towns as they are all Airbnbs lost all communities and soul, also loving the videos and glad to see the wife all OK.

Excellent stuff Barry and great education for people who haven’t traveled to or have places in Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa. It is a fabulous friendly area with a great mix of different nationalities. No protests - these are primarily happening on the islands or in Barcelona. Keep the great work up👍

Totally agree with everything you say 100%. Long term rents here in Spain are few and far between, no matter where you are looking. When you do your search you are being forced into areas and properties that are not suitable for tourists, so, we the Spanish residents get the left overs. I do agree Airbnb and greedy landlords play a big part in this. Choosing where you want to live is a thing of the past. We were pretty lucky ourselves recently after a very frustrating and nerve wrecking search of more than 9 months. Although we are extremely happy with what we found, there is little chance of any tourist wanting to stay here where we are anyway !

Thank you for this very enlightening video. We are processing our NLVs and very worried about ‘anti tourisms’ news that we are getting here in the UK. Enjoyed the video very much. Muchas gracias from your Subscriber from Scotland😊

Barry, another good video. They’ve made it very expensive in North Berwick in the letting of properties and suddenly there’s loads of flats on the market. Maybe that’s a way forward, because some of the properties for rent were shocking. Same in a load of places. Air B and B is a hit or a miss. Pittenweem is a shell of its former self, it’s such a pity. I remember as a child it being hoaching during the summer….I hope this one does well, it’s well executed. Thanks.

It's not government job to tell what you allowed and not to do with your property. And when the Spanish government decided to pass law that puts cap on rent and allow squatting this is the consequences. Property owners would rather rent their property 3 months out of the year and instead of signing long term lease. Spanish people needs to protest to end this law and things will change.

Might be an idea to pause any property purchase for 6 months, wait for any dip in prices, or...

I live in the highlands. we have 26 full time occupied houses. 5 were rented out one day at time. Like air b n b.
Recently thankfully the last 2 months, 3 finally closed. one owner of 2 died and one property owners family moved i to it.its a nightmare living in tiny place these strangers speeding in out. Mot controlling their dogs. Its robs us of our peaceful rural village.

Spain needs a housing revolution, social housing, stop the renting licences being issued and tenants if don't pay rent should not be entitled to squatters rights and in turn staying in accommodation 6 months 1 year 2 years before it goes to town Hall court etc there is so much paperwork and rules it makes more sense for a property owner to rent out as holiday rentals, it's a vicious circle

I keep hearing about squaters, how big a problem is it ? Btw i live in a tourist town on west coast of Scotland & we have the same problem with Airbnb so i get how the Spanish people feel

Great video, stayed in Benidorm small local hotel, ate in local tapas bars, made very welcome. You know the saying Happy locals .... Happy tourists. The air b and b set up is killing community. This time of year going to Edinburgh you'd need to rob a bank ....if you can find one😅 all the best from Glasgow.

Like you say it's not the tourist is the issue it's Airbnb people but places don't let out to locals it's all about air bb

I don't think anybody anticipated how Airbnb would turn out, that is outsiders, mostly foreigners, buying up regular properties as investment opportunities. Add on aparthotels and there is now huge negative societal problems, especially for the young wanting to stay in their own neighborhoods. So l welcome the crackdown.

St Andrews is a prime example.. University on one side Golf Course on the other.. Every Apartment every house is taken by students .. Summertime rented out to Golfers.. Local young people don’t stand a chance .. No future for the younger generation to live in that area ..

Imagine most of these air bnbs where gone and couples families etc where renting the properties long term the local business shops restaurants would benefit all year round Instead they get a couple of summer moths then everyone is off and the place is empty .

Seen some comments, like "only happening in Barcelona or the Canaries", this is incorrect. Only last month l've seen demos, flyers and graffiti in Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Malaga & Cadiz, that's the whole coast, it's moving inland & l've seen graffiti in Jerez. Put yourself in the locals

Hi Barry, love your videos, brilliant information. I need some advice please? We are an elderly couple late 60s early 70s, we live just outside a village in Almeria, we need to drive for shops or doctors or hospital, we are conscious of aging and what comes with it. We have an opportunity to take a place in Los Balcones, but we're unsure if this would be a bad idea we are long term renters, my fear is if we let this place go and don't like the other place we may not be able to afford the move to somewhere else? Any thoughts much appreciated please?
