In today's video, we will be swatching out the Rosa Gallery Watercolor 60-color dot card thanks to a kind patron who sent it my way! Many of you have been asking for me to take a look at this Ukranian brand of watercolor, and I'm glad I finally am able to do so. It's a long one, so grab a snack or your sketchbook, and let's dive in.

My sincere apologies to headphones users! There is a soft thumping noise that comes up throughout the video. I tried to edit it out wherever possible. I haven't recorded an unscripted video for a long time, and I'm in a new set up. The sound wasn't audible to me at the time, but I will adjust for the next video!

Hello! I hope you all enjoy today's nice long look at the Rosa Gallery dot card. As I continue to get to know these paints, I'd love to hear what you think about them and if you have any favorite colors!

As always with these SWM videos, this video isn't intended to be temptation. I hope it's helpful as a buying guide if you're trying to decide between colors!

This was one of those videos I watched walking around my house and talked to it like it was a sports ball game in my excitement for some colors.

Hello, I've been subscribed to you since probably around 2016 and have been watching you on and off since (not anything to do with your content, just kinda lose track with the sheer volume of channels I'm subscribed to ^^;). Watching all your swatching videos back then got me really into pigments and learning about them, and has helped tremendously when it comes to color mixing.

And my goodness, watching your videos now feels like coming home. You've a warmth and softness in your voice that feels so pleasant to listen to and it's so wonderful to hear you in the background while I'm painting. Thanks so much for all your videos and the effort and knowledge you put into them and I really hope life is treating you well!

I love that you talk about all the pigment information. It helps me learn without feeling like im studying a textbook or listening to a boring lecture.

I rely on my Rosa Gallery paints as my most used paints for travel, studio classes and often working at home. I don’t use earth colors much, I mix a lot, so I appreciate the excellent range of primary/secondary colors like ultramarine blue, cobalt blue (lovely delicate granulation) the yellows, purple and lightfast reds. However, the yellow ochre is as transparent as any I’ve seen, and I also like a couple of others of the earth colors. I love the paints’ layering ability, “glow” and versatility. I enjoy the freedom their full size pans give my brush, the easy rewetting, and the quality tins. The paints don’t tend towards all pigments staining like M. Graham and Qor, except for the standard staining pigments like Phthalo Blue.

The paints are great when I travel; they don’t crack, and they don’t make a goopy mess like over-honeyed (IMHO) M. Graham. They have never leaked out of the tin, and yet they’re easy to rewet.
The lightfastness overall is excellent, minus a couple of traditional vintage pigments. The paints have professional pigmentation levels, excellent clarity, delicate granulation, and decent but not difficult to control movement.

The price is exceptional for the quality, definitely a best buy. They are headquartered in western Ukraine, so I believe they’ve had not much bomb damage from the war, and they continue to work in their own modern facility.

My favorite sets are the Classic and the Floral botanical set. I use the floral set for all subjects. I also regularly paint with Winsor & Newton, Daniel Smith and Holbein, and I am a trained, experienced watercolorist. My general favorite brand, Winsor and Newton, is more transparent overall and the colors are more balanced with each other, not to mention more consistently lightfast, and D Smith has modern, intensely and almost aggressively bright colors, compared to Rosa Gallery. But they are much more expensive, and Rosa has its own very worthwhile, charming characteristics. I love my Rosa Gallery WC paints. They have a sweetly traditional English watercolor vibe. Great for landscapes.

Thank you a non bias review. It is much more helpful to hear about the qualities of the paintin stead of personal preferences. I really like these paints and I am a WN fan.

Thank you for making this video! I’ve been debating on getting Rosa watercolors for a while. The purples in this range are lovely.

I LOVE my rosa gallery paints! I was so so impressed by this brand, definitely on par with my pro paints like DS and A gallo in terms of vivid color!

Love your swatching videos; they are very informative and I refer back to them when purchasing a new color. Rosa Gallery released 10 new colors recently that include another lightfast Pyrrole Red, PR254, an Azo Yellow, PY151, Cadmium Orange Medium, an "Indanthrene Grey, PB60, and some additional blues, greens, and earth colors. :) I started with pans but recently have purchased some 10ml tubes and enjoy them.

Thanks Denise🎉 I really enjoy the ROSA paints. They are quite versatile. They are a little on the heavy side but it depends on what I'm painting and what effect i want. If i want to layer endlessly I'll go with Sennelier or Rembrandt ( the glow from the paper with Rembrandt is second to none imo) if i want great salt effects or very little drying shift or one layer coverage for cards or illustration orvi want to lift woth stencils on a background Rosa is my go to. I have not gotten a muddy mix yet with them. I enjoy using different brands of paint and have several. 😉

Being half Ukrainian myself (my dad and his family immigrated here when he was 3) it's so cool to see some beautiful supplies from that part of the world! Especially because of the war with Russia, it's important to spread more about Ukrainian culture, which art supplies can help facilitate. 🇺🇦

I bought the monopigmented 21 set on amazon when it was on sale for 20 something dollars. At first, I disliked the opacity and just how much pigment I picked up from most of them whereas the couple of browns seemed to have the opposite issue.

However, I realized since then that these are actually a great watercolor/gouache hybrid and they’re great for me when I want to go for a hike and need fast saturation. The white is also pretty decent and can be mixed with the other colors to make them even more opaque.

Hullo Denise, I am so glad that you have made a study of these paints! I wanted to support Ukraine people and I was very hesitant to send money to “aid charities” So I looked for ways to boost the country’s economy and help actual people living there! I purchased a set of urban sketching watercolors in their 12 pan palette and substituted 2 more colors as the company was happy to replace the greens, since I have mixed my greens for more years than I care to think about. I picked warm grey and cobalt turquoise. I was so enchanted with the paints that I went back and purchased a selection of 24 colors and I did get a couple of the questionable reds, I just wanted the coral and carmine! I also got the 2 cad yellows as well as the ultramarine blue with Indanthrene blue for my darkest blue. I did get tubes of the warm grey as well as the cobalt turquoise! I have several different colors I went Paynes grey over indigo, I did get the SAP green knowing that it was not a true SAP green but a very nice middle green for easier mixing when I am feeling lazy! Now the quin violet was a must for me too. I suppose that is a long enough comment, I am sure most have stopped reading this extended comment, but I want to thank you again for sharing this lovely paint line with your viewers and subscribers too!
I truly enjoyed watching your swatch video and I do hope that you create your own artwork from this brand of paints!
