Pixel Dan Reviews the Amazon Exclusive Masters of the Universe Origins Modulok Action Figure from Mattel – Unboxing, Articulation, and More!

In this special review, Pixel Dan dives into the Amazon Exclusive Masters of the Universe Origins Modulok action figure, an exciting addition to Mattel’s Origins line that brings one of the most iconic villains from Eternia’s Evil Horde back to life! Known for his terrifying, modular design and unique playability, Modulok has captured the imaginations of MOTU fans for decades. This brand-new Origins release stays true to the original 80s figure, while updating Modulok with modern articulation, improved durability, and enhanced detail, making it a must-have for any Masters of the Universe collector.

Unboxing and First Impressions: Is the MOTU Modulok Worth It?
Pixel Dan kicks off the review by unboxing this exclusive Modulok figure, which comes in eye-catching packaging designed to celebrate the legacy of the Masters of the Universe Origins series. He takes a close look at the intricate artwork and detailed packaging design, highlighting its nods to the vintage Modulok while showcasing new elements that MOTU collectors will love. Dan’s initial impressions reveal just how well Mattel has crafted this exclusive figure to honor the nostalgia of Modulok’s origins while appealing to modern toy enthusiasts.

Modular Madness: How Many Ways Can You Build Modulok?
One of the standout features of Modulok is his unique modular capability. This Masters of the Universe Origins Modulok figure includes multiple body parts, limbs, and heads that allow fans to create a variety of bizarre and monstrous forms. Dan explores the endless customization possibilities, showing viewers just how versatile Modulok can be. Whether you want a two-headed creature, extra arms, or an elongated body, Modulok’s pieces snap together smoothly, allowing for seamless customization and configuration. Dan demonstrates some of his favorite Modulok builds and explains how this Origins release brings out the creative potential that made the original figure such a beloved classic.

Articulation and Sculpt: How Does Modulok Measure Up?
Pixel Dan examines Modulok’s updated articulation, covering everything from head and torso articulation to the movement in each limb. Mattel has equipped Modulok with a range of motion designed to enhance posability, allowing collectors to pose him in menacing or imaginative ways. Dan discusses how the articulation adds to the play value, enabling collectors to create action scenes and capture Modulok’s character in dynamic poses. He also praises the quality of the sculpting, pointing out the intricate details, sharp paint applications, and texturing that make this figure feel true to the source material. The Origins line is all about balancing nostalgia with modern toy standards, and Modulok is no exception!

Modulok’s Role in the Masters of the Universe Origins Line and His Evil Horde Legacy
For longtime fans of Masters of the Universe, Modulok is a key character within the Evil Horde, a faction led by the menacing Hordak. Dan delves into Modulok’s background, reminding fans of his twisted, scientific mind and monstrous appearance that make him one of the most memorable villains in the MOTU lore. As Dan explains, Modulok was not only an ally to Hordak but also a rival to other MOTU villains, making him a complex character that added depth to Eternia’s epic battles. By revisiting Modulok’s roots, Dan shows why he’s so important to collectors of the MOTU Origins series, connecting this new release to the broader Masters of the Universe legacy.

The play feature of Modulok always gave me head canon that hes related to the Thing, from John Carpenters "The Thing"

Yay!! This was so much fun! Great to see you with an early review!!

Also, the pink forest creature was a version of Light Hope that was created as part of the prototype of the Whispering Woods playset for the vintage Princess of Power toy line.

Modulok was my favorite MOTU character. As a kid, the scene from “Happy Birthday Roboto” where he was going to place his extra head on Man At Arms to steal his intelligence scared the crap out of me as a kid!

I really want this one. God I hope BBTS gets him as well because if I miss out on Amazon I know I can count on BBTS.

apparently the scorpion and the other might be deep cut motu references, The Scorpion guy might be a nod to a obscure 2002 character called Scorpius

Great review! Thanks for the comparisons. It's hard to imagine this figure being bigger than the Classics version. I also love the way the designers used the tool as a shield so all accessories can be stored with the figure. I hope that we get a Modulok in the Masterverse Vintage subline (perhaps with blood and spark effects to be attached in place of limbs). Speaking of the Masterverse Vintage line, I would love to see Mattel incorporate other properties into those base bodies such as Sun-Man, Thundarr, Conan, Kull, , Son of Zorn, etc.

YOU MISSED SOMETHING! The 3 fingered claw hand on one of the arms can hold a weapon as well and it isn't shown here.

I like it. I can't say I'm happy about the gaps at the leg joints, but overall it's a great sculpt. I would heat up the lower legs with the mismatched feet, and swap them, so the painted claws and the plain red feet are on the legs that match the vintage. The feet are probably the hardest to swap, but hot water and a little patience gets it done. I really hope this does show up on some of the other online retailers, otherwise it's gonna be stuck in scalpers hands on eBay.

Way more complicated than the original. The vintage MODULOK is perfect.

As soon as they announced Modulok I planned to buy two, but now I can’t even get the Amazon page to open and BBTS has him marked up an extra $20

I've now got the Classics Modulok, where you can at least mix and match with the other figures and the figure itself looks better. I don't understand why, in the Origin line, where mix and match is possible with every figure, this doesn't work with the figure that established this system to some extent with the Masters. The Origin is simply the cheaper option in every respect.

Looks very cool. Modulok has always been one of my favorites, I have a sealed vintage and a sealed Classics, so I at least need a sealed Origins and one to open 😁👍.

Great review, thank you! I preordered mine here in Germany. A detail I didn't quite understand: you mentioned the fins on one of the pair of legs as being the ones from the LOP Mer Man. I do have that both a single figure but also as part of the LOP Set, but I haven't seen these fins on mine. Haven't put him out of the packages however.
