't Smidje (literally translated: the Little Smith): is a traditional Flemish song from the band Laïs. It was released in 1998.

It's a song that finds it's origins in the Flemish medieval music.
The lyrics of the song date back to an elegy from 1790.
It is very common that this song is played at Flemish weddings or festivities as most Flemish people know the dance that accompanies this song.
The song is actually known outside of Flanders aswell. In Poland this song is refered to as Taniec Belgijski (the Belgian Dance)

Lyrics:
Who wants to hear a history
of one young blacksmith
And the lessons he learned the hard way
Heated daily by the fire.

I wish I was still with my hammer
I wish I was still pounding the iron

I'm done with all that forging
And traveled off to France
Want to commit myself to marriage
To the prettiest woman I've ever seen

I wish I was still with my hammer
I wish I was still pounding the iron

She really is the prettiest woman
But you've never seen such a serpent
Never once can she shut up
And never, ever is she pleased

I wish I was still with my hammer
I wish I was still pounding the iron

You never let me have a beer
And you never let me be merry
I can't even pour someone
A glass of beer or wine

I wish I was still with my hammer
I wish I was still pounding the iron

I'm done with all that marrying
I wish I became widower
I would keep myself in a corner
And keep myself out of danger

I wish I was still with my hammer
I wish I was still pounding the iron
I wish I was still with my hammer
I wish I was still pounding the iron
