$0.04/kWh really helps the economics. Where I live in SoCal the base TOU rate is $0.20/kWH and the peak is $0.29/kWh.

That was a surprise. Most Tesla YouTube content is from owners who want performance rather than economy, so it will be interesting to have the perspective of somebody who has been driving a Prius. It will also be interesting to find out how the lithium battery upgrade in the Prius works out over time.

Our electric company here in Ga claims we are at 08c per KWH but the add .04c per KWH in fees and then more fees and taxes on top of all that gives us a .12c+ per KWH rate 24/7 365 days of the year.

My wife splurged and got that same car. It is fantastic and exhilarating to drive. It is also frustrating though, because doing even simple things like turning up the ac or heat involves several steps on a screen that pulls your eyes from the road. The fonts on the screen are tiny and, apparently, cannot be adjusted. Waaay too much complexity on the screen. Still, very economical and fun to drive. 350 miles of range is also fantastic.

Tesla looks good on paper, but has so many drawbacks
1. Charging. Unless you own your own house, most people rent and do not have access to home charging which means you are forced to use super chargers which will take up your time and put more wear on the battery compared to slowly charging it overnight through your home.
2. Very expensive to repair. Tesla is not friendly for repairs and actively fights right to repair. The parts are expensive and if the battery goes bad you are out of luck. Most shops cannot repair a Tesla so you are on the mercy of Tesla.
3. Very expensive car insurance. Since the parts are expensive, insurance costs a lot more compared to a standard hybrid car.
4. Tire wear. Tesla not only needs a more expensive tires, it also eats through them significantly faster than a standard hybrid. EVs produce a lot of torque when accelerating and use regenerative braking when slowing down. EVs are also heavier than a standard hybrid car, this all together contributes to poor tire life.
5. Range anxiety. The range is lower compared to a standard hybrid car. Use of AC for either heating or cooling eats significant amount of battery. If the weather is very cold, the range significantly drops and could have trouble charging.
6. Reliability. Tesla according some rankings (consumer reports) have poor reliability.
7. long term ownership. The EV battery is a ticking time bomb and is loosing life overtime. When the time comes that you need to replace the battery, the cost is so high you might as well sell the car for scaps.

You get a cool car with instant torque, low cost to charge, no oil changes, spark plugs, timing belts, oil filters, etc... to replace. cool tech (self driving, cool dashboard, etc...). The drawbacks far outweighs the pros of an EV.

We own a 2020 Y and have a new PMY on order, Ameren here in southern IL has an EV rate plan and my nightly cost per kWh drops from about 13 cents per kWh to a tick over 6 cents. It's almost like driving for free, and given how efficient Tesla's can be if you stay out of the throttle.

Your red Prius only had 108, 000 miles and you sold it, and got a Tesla LMFAO.

Teslas have become too expensive and all have boring styling. I prefer the Ionic5. Not saying the tech is not good but just don't like Tesla styling.

The thing with teslas is that it fully depends on the battery making it lifespan shorter than ic cars, repair cost is expensive, replacing the battery cost the same as buying a new car and you’re not able to repair it yourself.
Prius is still the best option for the biden-inflation times since saves a lot of money on gas but also since it’s an hybrid the batteries are no as big as teslas batteries so replacing batteries are cheaper and easier than a tesla and prius lifespans are longer than any electric car and is 10k usd cheaper
The prius prime would have been a better purchase and toyota is more reliable than tesla, teslas car have poor quality building, the tech that everyone praises is just an ipad glued into the tabletop and the self-driving ai is not really that good, also the fact that you have no control of your car since there have been reports of tesla taking back cars for whatever reason and also elon musk doesn’t deliver his promises, his keynotes and announces are mostly straight up lies just like elizabeth holmes did when she was in theranos. There’s a lot of misinformation about teslas and elon doesn’t really help that much to combat that, they’re really pretty bad vehicles, i would even prefer to buy vw or ford evs but i just dont like evs at this moment, if they fix these problems ill jump into evs but for now the tech is still in diapers.

One year later the bill from your tesla dealership after your tesla breaks down. I don't think the tesla is worth it over a Prius. I would have upgraded the Prius to be more like a electric car than to over pay for a overpriced junk car that can't last more than 3 years on average.

EV is crap.. only good if you own two cars.. one of them being gas
