Robert Smalls, is an early American hero who survived the Civil War. What an incredible man. In this faraway place, here. And how valuable he was to the Union of, Our Great Nation. And Robert Smalls is one who made it, Greater Still.

There are many, little-known Americans. Who contributed, incredible things, to our country. That no one shall ever really know about, here about, read about. Because they are unsung heroes.. Who shall remain virtually anonymous. Like my late mentor, Thomas M. Bray. Who took me under his wing. After my folks divorced and dad moved away. Whom, I never really saw much or spoke too much again. And while Tom was a former, Methodist Minister with his own church. He was also a Genius Electrical Engineer. And the father of Vertical Hold for TV as we know it. In the dawning of 1948. While he was an engineer at Bell Laboratories. And they sold his circuit immediately to RCA. That introduce the first, consumer, commercial TV in New York City. Manufactured in Camden, New Jersey. And all near Bell Laboratories. Where the same year they invented this new do Hickey called the Transistor. But Tom was not part of that lab crew. And nobody will ever know about Thomas M Bray. As he received no recognition. Discovered it on his own time at home. But companies like Bell Laboratories literally owned their employees. And when he showed his colleagues. They owned it. And so the circuit to RCA.. Four likely countless millions of dollars. Tom didn't get anything. Not a bonus. Not a week. Not an extra day off. Not even a thank you. Times were different back then in the USA. Much different than they are today.

And so Robert Smalls will now get the proper recognition, he deserves, posthumously. And I will always thank my lucky stars. For Thomas M. Bray. The extended family dad I needed in my life at that time, at that age. I'm so indebted to his graciousness and care. As he also had a younger son of his own. Toby. Who looks just like I remember his dad. When I was 15 today. It's amazing.

I went on to do my thing for NBC-TV, Washington, DC for 2 decades. It's like I was Scotty from Star Trek. I have no college degree. But I teach college professors. Because I have no degree. I cannot teach full time at the university level. So I must remain, isolated. In all of the lovely control rooms. I have been so fortunate to work in her hidden. A couple of them my own. And at other, high-end, studios. Especially when I also get to technically help them out to get better sound. Because I'm like Scotty from Star Trek. Even over at NBC. I've thrown together, specialized equipment. In 10 minutes time. From a box of random parts in the shop. One manager looked at me one day and said… I've never seen anybody do what you just did. How did you do that? I told him we had to get it on the air. It was that simple. No big deal. For me. He said yes but nobody has ever done that before here.. Not like that. Not that fast. Not from nothing. I didn't tell him. The secret ingredient was, marijuana. It prevents overthinking everything. And that's where everybody screws up. I've discovered. Overthinking everything. Because they are way too sober. Stop that! What are you thinking? That's not how rock 'n' roll hits are made. You need this! Inhale!

It really does make a difference with rock 'n' roll music. And progressive jazz..
