Traditionally used to purify the mind, komboloi beads are inextricably associated with worry and have been used by Western society for centuries. Yet, humans have a tendency for insalubrious methods of coping that have led to the use of komboloi beads as a wholesome direction of worry. Instead, society has fallen into patterns of harmful mental health often founded on anxieties.
This concept is practiced in my work through the representation of various mental health issues that stem from worrying of one kind or another. I arrived at this concept inadvertently after much procrastination, being too anxious to begin. From this, a collection of portraits have been created as a reflection of my own confrontations with worry.
