Thank you very much! Your detailed instructions helped me alot building this great MD.

For anyone who is wondering about the coil, its very important for the coil to have the right amount of windings, ie the right inductance.
Otherwise its not working or only in a narrow frequency band. That was the case with my first coil, that had too much inductance, ie too many windings.

I wound the second coil by adding/substracting windings until it worked on both ends of the 2K variable resistor, which alters the pulse width and frequency.
That improved the sensitivity significantly.
The larger the coil, the less windings are necessary, a coil with 22cm and 25 windings seems to work also.

Thank you for making this video. I have adapted the circuit with the NE555 and/or relay(remove the buzzer&4R7 with 1kohm and jump C1815's Collector signal to pin2ofNE555) by using the negative signal that come from the transistor, so the next 555 section will generate an output pulse(with the RC duty cycle ratio) anytime when the metal object is in-range. ♥

Design a 'pointer' that is so reduced in power it only detects from 10cm or less. These types are not so good for general detecting because you will sense garbage at 100cm and spend all day digging metre-deep holes for junk. That being said, I'll still build it as it's a good detector and a nice project to build. I'm sure it has good usage.
I will also say that you have perfected the art of the Youtube 'Circuit Video'. Very clear showing placement of components + A link to the necessary files that actually works + A valid schematic at the end. +10000 likes!

Thanks! i made this detector to from another circuit, and realised they had totaly wrong value on the resistor from pin 7 and 8 on 555 (1 kohm). The irf mosfet was glowing hot. Then found other circuit that used 47kohm, and that made it allot better, and even more sensetive. will try even 100k as you use, though i still got it on breadboard :)

I made this circuit and found that the IRF730 mosfet was very hot.
the reason was the first resistor 1kohm between ic555 and 2k pot.

this resistor affects the oscillating frequency of the coil.
you must replace it with 100 or 220 ohm to increase the frequency and reduce the power consumption.

it is a very magnificent effort you did thank you so much
but i have 3 questions
1- is the sound volume strength indicate the distance between the metal and the coil ?
2- what is the maximum detection distance for this circuit?
3- can i replace the speaker with a relay if yes what kind of relay ? (i need something to make trigger on metal detection so i can connect the circuit to the Arduino digital pin )

im still trying to figure out how you distinguish metal from that induction pulse with one opamp chip. Is that a lowpass filter on the first opamp?
