I restore/re-sole my own, other than the outsole stitching, which I have to rely on a cobbler for. One thing anyone can do to reduce the cost and the risk of a busy cobbler simply doing the outsole stitch over the old stitches is to break down the shoe yourself and pick out the old stitches. You could also remove the cork to ensure this is replaced by the cobbler. As you get more confident, you could then recork the shoe and even fit the new sole, if you fancied. Great video.
