I remember trying to give him to a guy who has a side quest where i needed to get a horse for him. He responded with “does that look like a horse to you?” And i found that hilarious.

Lord of the mountain also prevents enemies spawning and attacking you out of nowhere but as soon as he leaves those enemies come back with a vengeance.

The most interesting fact imo is that this creature is essentially Satoru Iwata (former Nintendo president who passed during development). His compendium reads:

"This noble creature watches over all animals that make their homes in the forest. Legends say this holy creature is a reincarnation of a sage that died on the lands it now protects. It has an acute awareness of its surroundings, so it seldom appears before people. It's sometimes known by its other name, Satori."

He’s the best mount because he’s a reference to the forest spirit from Princess Mononoke. A lot of BOTW was inspired by that movie. Now look at TOTK, link is going to have one of his arms either entirely replaced or afflicted by malice. This is directly taken from that movie where ashitaka has a curse on one of his arms.

This mount is in remembrance of Satoru Iwata who passed away during the development of BOTW and was instrumental in many things Nintendo did.

The development team placed this mount in the game to honor him, as the guardian and protector of the land (which is why you can’t register the mount at stables)

The fifth reason is that He’s also supposedly the digital metaphorical ‘reincarnation’ of a Nintendo president. The NPC Botrick points you towards Satori Mountain, and he bears a striking resemblance to Satoru Iwata, that former Nintendo president. Either this is a sort of “two parts of the same spirit” deal, or either one of the entities is potentially the in game interpretation of Iwata-Sama.
