Water Monitors are highly intelligent. It's very important to realize that if you scare the animal when you first meet it, it can destroy any chance of it being friendly.

This is actually so helpful, even though I won't be buying an animal for a while but I didn't even think about the fact that the way you greet them can affect their behavior, amazing animal btw :D

That’s it. From now on, I’m officially calling everything that acts spicy *”a ding dong.”* 😂❤

It's got to be hard for an empathetic soul like Kevin to see folks loving this hobby but along the same lines as folks who end up rescuing and loving dogs end up incurring a lot of fees responsibilities and expectations that need to be met that they weren't ready for it's nice to have folks like him taking their time to show you the proper way to do things. I've noticed in my 45 years on this planet that reptiles are starting to come around full circle again and people are starting to love them I can only hope our species can leave these better than they found them so to speak like Kevin in the New England reptile guys do crossing my fingers, another great video from Kevin good stuff

The lil squish steadfastly deciding to walk up Kevin’s hat like it was totally where it planned to be after getting nabbed from its anklescapade 😂

I need more of this cuteness please Donny. Just lil monitors being their lil selves 😁😘👌 it made my day so much better plus the information shared was really great too.

Thank you Kevin and crew

If I am ever able to get a water monitor I don't care how much I have to pay I will be getting it from NERD because Kevin is amazing he truly is a reptile whisperer I love watching him work with all his animals and I've learned so much from watching his videos. I would love to visit NERD but I live in rural Canada on an island and I don't see any trips to America anytime soon but this would be my first stop if I ever come over that way. I love what u guys are doing with showing reptiles in a different light cause alot of people don't like them and are scared of them but u guys are doing awesome work showing big tame reptiles and I'm loving it!!

I have a tremendous amount of respect for your ability to handle and socialize the animals you work with. Personally I don’t really like being close to snakes but am not afraid of them.

This makes soooo much sense. Specialty pet stores usually say 'put them in their enclosure and leave them alone for 2 weeks." I get that, but i like this approach better the 'dont traumatize' aspect with reinforcement of calm+safe.

When i get my beardie im absolutely going to do it this way in the tub 😌 i also did something similar to my bird when they were a baby. I would put them on their perch and they eventually made the active choice to be closer. I explained to the store they werent in their cage for the first week like they suggested but they were eating/drinking just fine. They did blow up, but my thoughts were i didn't stress them out and for giving that bird choice the bird thrived o.o. same seems to be tge case for reptiles and im here for it! Reinforce with positivity when one can for my tegu when sleeping I used my scent from clothing! This will be repeated, but i dont care what animal it is the clotges you wore that day put it in with your scale or fur baby (not sure about birds xD) it makes a huge difference with gaining trust/comfort.
