A former head of Joint Forces Command says Ukraine needs up to $40bn a year in military aid from the West to defeat Russia.

General (Retired) Sir Richard Barrons said while it is "quite a big bill", it is "much, much cheaper than a war between NATO and Russia".

There is actually a crowdfunding action run by a Czech businessman called "a gift for Putin" that crowdfunded a modernized T72 tank for Ukraine within a month. They are now crowdfunding for Artillery ammo in case somebody is looking for something to donate too.

The US spent 2.3 trillion... Yes TRILLION in Afghanistan and Iraq. This is frankly a super cheap way for the US to keep Russia tied up, and also learn about how to conduct near peer warfare. It will massively accelerate the reduction in dependence that Europe has on Russian energy which will defang Russia in the long run.

Iraq and Afghanistan were $100 billion a year. $40 billion is much cheaper and Ukraine is much more worthwhile.

40 billion a year is very doable considering:

US GDP in 2020 = 20.9 trillions dollars (778 billion in military budget)
EU GDP in 2021 = 17 trilion dollars

RUssia GDP in 2020 = 1.5 trillion

Not too bad all things considered.
Russia will be providing a chunk of that during their retreats of course.
Defo worth it in the long run for the geo-strategic and long term benefits for the world.
The world cannot allow this kind of aggression. If it succeeds it will encourage more aggression, with a lot more cost associated with that.
The war might not even last another year anyway.

Ukraine is supported by the nations with combined GDP of $30-40 trln so $30-40 bln is just a 0.1%. If you take that average military spending are 2-3% GDP then Ukraine requires 5% of your security expenditures.

30 to $40bn?? :O LOL The US Military spends $780bn per year. The US Military will be more than happy to pay that chump change to put Russia out of its misery!

Peanuts on the long run... Invest in Ukraine, make it a member of the EU and NATO.

"FUN FACT"! Russia is the second largest supplier of war material to Ukraine! Well done Putler!

The real question is what would be the cost of a russian victory.

If America and NATO had not supplied Ukraine with weapons and economic and the Baltic states would have been next.

That’s really not that bad tbh if it’s spread out among countries willing to give aid

Peanuts compared to the totally senseless wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Absolutely do not turn don't turn Russia into a pariah state for a generation, a clearly better Russia should get better trade, that should be our promise to the Russian people. The payment of reparations, democracy and human rights in Russia should result in full free trade (without excessive dependency) that will make reparations less burdensome while also helping Ukraine's economy
