Wow it took Marie 7 years? In a way i feel relief because I'm close to graduating from uni and I am so nervous as to where everything will go after that, but she is really inspiring because she stuck and believed in something and rose prosperous

I'm making the decision to follow my dream right now. I am scared but realize this is necessary. Thanks Marie!

When you turn your back on your dreams, you're effectively abandoning your authentic self. That can only lead to poor mental and physical health. You owe it to yourself and others to take responsibility for your own happiness. If the path back to your dreams seems impossible or hazy, know that there IS a way, there always is. Even if it's doing five minutes of it a day, cutting your hours back by 10 hours a week, downsizing on your house. You can't get those years back that you spend living the "safe" option. Take some risks, life is just too short.

As someone that didn't discover a career that I was totally passionate about until I was 35 years old I can wholeheartedly get behind what Marie has to say on this topic. I would also add that one of the greatest pieces of advice I ever heard was something I picked up from Tony Robbins. Essentially Tony advised to not overestimate how much you can get done in one year and don't underestimate how you can achieve in ten years. People that don't reach unrealistic career goals in the short term tend to burn out and give up after a year. People that stay in it for the long haul will often surpass their ten year goals and much more before the ten years even passes. Don't give up, people.

I started working on my safe path by working on jobs that I was good at but was not passionate about them. They were the vehicle to save money in order to start my inspiring path. What worked for me was to never quite my previous job when I started my new business since it takes time and patience to make a profit the 1-2 years. I think it's good to have a side job to help you out in the process until you are financially stable with your dream inspiring path :)

"deadly for your soul"
That line gave me chills, it was so ominous.

You are absolutely right. I chose the safe and stable route and it cost me my mental and physical health

I started my dream business and im really glad I did but it took me 5 years to make middle class salary. it is rewarding but it can be pretty hard at times. and even in the dream industry there are days that I hate it and want to quit. somebody in the comments recommended keeping a part-time job while chasing the dream and I have to agree. having some sort of security while building the dream business will ensure that you keep you healthy distance and are not desperate for it to start making money which may compromise your decisions. in any case good luck!

This video literally came at the right moment. I was just having an argument with someone about safe vs inspiring jobs. I was nervous b/c the job I have is safe (and I hate it) but I have larger dreams in a field where I can make a large impact in the world (social work/non-profit/etc) and was concerned about retirement & making money to live. Because I am an adult right, I have to think of these things! This video just shut me up and gave me confirmation on what I should do! Lol

Well, I am transitionning from inspiring to safe, because, inspiring is stressful, and I discovered, I am NOT one made to build a business, because I want garantees. But I am still changing for something that I really like :) And taking that decision was such a relief for me!!

for 10 years in working my dream business it was so difficult financially in first years ... but it getting better with time .. If I have the chance to back in time before 10 years i will choose to work part time in an ordinary job at the begining and a part time in my dream business untill I reach a point that my dream business can be so strong that I work on it full time ....

Thank you so much for posting this video. My parents never understood this. You have to do what you love. Take risks until it pays off.

Great video as always Marie! It's so true that energy comes from having a mission/purpose and that only comes from a place in which you love. On the flip side, reading Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert also really helped me to identify when I was putting pressure on my passions to make money for me and how that can be a recipe for disaster.

I love Marie's videos! They are the best. But I have a suggestion for the writer to think about mixing both options (a career that follows your passion, and has some financial security in it). For example, I love counseling and praying for people (but I know that alone won't pay the bills)- so I'm going to seminary to be a Hospital Chaplain. My suggestion isn't to separate the two things that are important, but to find a middle ground where everyone can be happy.

I've always taken the "safe" path and I now have health problems. I'm looking to take "risks" now to make a difference in the world and in my life.

Totally agree about what you mentioned Marie... I'm renovating my personal brand right now, to really create my dream business. And one thing i´m really shure is that, everytime i have worked in something only for the money, has not been meaningful and fulfilling at all. And the only results that i had were getting frustrated and also sick. I consider that i have learned so much even when i have a short journey... And off course there are so many things i need to learn for the rest of my life.
Even though i have never met you or we dont talk the same language (btw sorry if my grammar sucks) or even if we dont lived on the same country, i considered you one of my best mentors.
Thanks for sharing your good and bad experiences, but more than everything else... for being yourself!!

This was perfect! (as always) I continue to work at a business that I created (installing solar systems for remote homes) but want to pursue more artistic venues. Producing audio books is now my passion and your wonderful video has boosted my confidence that it is OK to choose what I love over what I know will produce income. The income is great from doing solar, but the physical toll on this body is starting to get my attention. Thank you for illustrating that health and true happiness is more important than any paycheck. I feel so invigorated and validated after watching this video. Thank you!
