The Bills were down-and-out on two counts; they were trailing 35-3 to a talented Houston Oilers team and their starting quarterback, Jim Kelly, was was out due to an injury he suffered the week before to those same Oilers. The situation looked hopeless, but the team rallied around backup Frank Reich and went on a 35-3 second half run before winning the game in overtime. The 32 point deficit is the largest any NFL team has ever overcome on the way to a win.

TRUE STORY: The day this game aired, I remember thinking at halftime that the game was over, so I took a nap and had set my alarm so I'd wake up right when the next game was to start. When I woke up and turned on the TV, the very first thing I heard was, "... the greatest comeback in the history of the National Football League." It's nice to finally see what I slept through.

This game is legend in Buffalo for sure. Some fans gave up at halftime and left just to get out of the cold. Fans in the nosebleed seats had an opportunity to come down to empty seats and get a better view of the biggest comeback win in NFL history.

Imagine if they had social media back then. Houston would’ve been clowned so bad.

I was at this game..only 7 years old at the time and my father said let's leave like everyone else was at halftime. Idk why but I said I wanted to stay so we stayed. Good thing we did. I remember fans who left trying to break back into the stadium. Such great memories from that era...minus the 4 straight superbowl losses of course lol

Sadly, both announcers have since passed away. Charlie Jones (77) on this day in 2008. Todd Christensen (57) in 2013.

Loved Andre Reed. He was absolutely fearless coming across the middle. A very unselfish teammate and a great guy too. Instead of making his Hall of Fame speech all about himself he made it into a tribute to his former QB...Jim Kelly...who was suffering from cancer at the time. One of the best receivers I've ever seen after the catch as well. Very deserving of the HOF.

This Oilers group of the early 90's massively underachieved. They were loaded.

I remember my dad said the game was over and he was going to stack firewood. I kept watching though and yelled to him every Bills TD. When it got to 35-31 he ran back in and we watched 🙂

I listened to an interview with Bills running back, Kenny Davis. What an amazing attitude he had in this game. He was HUGE in this comeback.

I have to say, what a great game to watch. It wasn't over-officiated, and the late Charlie Jones and especially the late Todd Christensen did a GREAT job with the broadcast.

My parents went this game and were telling me how people were trying to climb over the fence to get back in once they realized the bills were coming back

This game wasn’t televised in Buffalo. I listened to it on the radio and wound up being late for work because I wasn’t going to miss the end of this one for my stupid telemarketing job. It’s great to see this game in full. Totally inspiring!

Charlie Jones just had a GREAT broadcaster's voice. I really enjoyed him and Todd doing the broadcasting work for this game.

11 years old. I watched this game from start to finish. Greatest comeback I've ever seen in a football game.

I called my dad today and told him this is no longer the greatest comeback in NFL history. I said, do you remember where we were that day? He said I don't remember where I was yesterday 😂. I'll never forget listening to the radio broadcast. Like most people we said this is over at halftime. We got back in the truck and the postgame was on. We heard, well folks we just witnessed the greatest comeback in NFL history. Never forget that day. The 90's was such a great era for sports. 🍻

I'm sad we lost that day, but the memories of my dad cussing up a storm as Houston crumbled will live with me forever, love you always dad! We may not have agreed on many things, but watching the Oilers, I will cherish forever, man I miss those days.
