this seems kinda like a capo, where if someone calls it cheating they probably dont understand the use

I do wonder how many of these "why use a tool when you can just palm mute?" people own a dozen overdrive pedals

Man, the 2 were so different sounding I didn't even realize you played the same riff the second time

"i just palm mute. it's free"
As if this isn't $2

Idk why people think there’s “cheating” in playing an instrument 😭

It’s funny, this guys just sharing tips and tricks, either take the advice or not. lol you don’t have to rag on the guy for sharing what he likes to use. Keep it up man!

Honestly, as someone who has been playing decades at this point and taught a few people their first chords/songs, IF this made something easier for people I have no problem with it. People gatekeeping is just dumb.

If you've never seen a small piece of rubber make so many people angry, I'm glad to know you weren't secretly recording all of my hookups

First one is rubber, second is palm mute. And that’s an awesome suggestion/alternative! I’m getting one asap.

I bought one. Was probably your vid that inspired the purchase. #1 is definitely with the silicon. It adds a nifty plucky sound, where pm'd is more muted. Both have their uses!

Bass players have been using foam strips or sponges under their strings since the early days of bass-guitar to get a more percussive sound and it has nothing to do with not being able to mute strings. It was really common to do so on the early P-basses that came with bride covers (they were perfect to keep the foam in place). Some vintage bases like vintage Musicman Stingrays even came from the factory with bridges specifically made to be able to mute strings using pieces of rubber under the saddles that you could pop up and down. If you have to mute with your palm you have to play near the bridge, but if you have a sordina you are free to play closer to the neck and to get a deeper sound. A great example of this is Carol Kaye, but many bassist did it, especially for that Motown sound.

Honestly I’m just impressed you saw that tennis racket bridge and realized it would fit guitar strings perfectly
maxthemad
Yeah my dumbass was turning the wrong string while tuning and was like “why the hell wont this change pitch?” So naturally I just kept turning it higher and higher and snapped a totally different string.

Yo! That’s awesome! I struggle even stretching my fingers to the chords, forget palm muting! That’s an amazing idea!

Even with the pixelation it was pretty easy to see the hand movement and be able to tell which one was palm muted and in which one the hand was free.. both sounded good and different..

When palm muting, you dont have to go SO high on the strings, it just makes it sound like there isnt anything even being played
