also this model of disk has a known issue where they will die unexpectedly. So just use a NAS or something with a redundant array

You are way overspending. You dont need portability, or even solid state. Build a nas with some big HDDs. Even with a raid config with a solid amount of failure tolerance youre still getting crazy speeds on the same network, and can tunnel into it from anywhere on any device
