We love travelling on trains (even though Jacqui sometimes gets travel sick), but we had no idea what to expect in a First Class Train in Morocco!

This 6.5 hour journey was not the most comfortable but... it could have been worse!

It was the cheapest and most convenient way to get from Fes, Morocco's Cultural Capital, to Marrakech, the heart and busiest city in Morocco.

There are some bumps along the way but you'll but have watch to find out.

You should have tried the french high speed train (TGV), it's very clean, fast and modern, i took it from Tanger to Casablanca. In Marrakech, it's very touristy, you have to be very carefull and always negociate the price before to take a Taxi.

The high speed train is only available between Tangier and Casablanca through Rabat. You can see in the 7:19 min

Just returned from an amazing 16 day stay in Morocco. ONCF has the best folks during our stay as we changed schedules and they reissued new tickets. The CTM bus driver was great. Do get your tour guide with the CTM tourist station office as they are govt licensed. We got immersed in the countrysides of Ouezzane, Chefchaouen, Tetoun, Casablanca, Fes, Marrakech. Dont forget to bargain!

That's not a taxi you should've report him to police and if a taxi ask you where you're going just tell him he just wants to make sure it's a good road for him when he makes a comeback and make sure the counter is on all yellow taxi in Marrakech should have a counter

welcome to Morocco, I am shocked by the behavior of this clandestine taxi... be careful next time... take only the taxis and tell him to use the meter. Unfortunately there is good and bad in everything, and don't let this incident ruin your trip.

Guys, if you are still there, I will gladly help you with some tips from 30+ years of experience travelling in the Mediterranean area. I watch a ton of videos, and man I really clicked at your van episode. I was like So...my only long comment in 2 year for you, I hope you will find it useful.

1. Never get in a car with someone you don't know. Always catch a taxi, they all have meters, they won't steal money, they can't. The police there is very (VERY) strict about it. "Petit taxi" is the way to go inside any city, and they are easy to stop because they are coloured (a different colour in each city). I felt so bad when I saw you get in that ugly van, because it's just not whay people do it there. They have nice cars with air con everywhere, just pull your thumb out and a taxi will stop, and say "where are you going?".

Note: taxi drivers will always ask you "where are you going" because they need to plan their route. They need to know where you are heading guys! They have a meter, so there is no negotiation involved, that's why they get straight to the point. When you catch a taxi, first thing you hear is "where are you going?". Standard. Please don't improvise, that's how you run into scammers, and in doubt ask a local, like a vendor, or someone at any office, to get the best help/tip. You can trust them 100%. Don't take advice from bogs, seriously. Petit taxi is very cheap, you can see how much you are paying on the meter. But don't cross the city border on a small taxi, they are not allowed to do that anyway, and if they offer to do that, they are breaking the law.

2. When you travel outside the city, all taxi's are white, and called "grand taxi" (usualy a Mercedes) with a serial number on them (take note of that). They can be shared, which measn that you will have to wait until the car is full before you depart, or private, which will be a private drive from start to finish, all yours, and the driver can stop anywehre you want, you don't need to plan that in advance. You pay for the distance and the time. It's not very cheap but not expensive either. Always ask "how much" as soon as you say hello, it's not rude, but fix the price before anything. That said, the price will depend on city f departure, and time of authoriztion, cost of fuel, not really much of a differrence from taxi to taxi. Again, even with grand taxi's you can't be scammed, for private rides are registered one by one, and if anythign goes wrong the police will not take it lightly.

Tour guides with their own cars, I can't help you with that, cause those are private businesses so they can charge you whatever they want, much like in Europe. If yo uare going to the desert, in that case you want to go with a proper guide and full tour. Again, know how much you are paying, in detail (meals, camel rides, etc) otherwise you wil be paying extras at tevery stop. Generally they will offer you a full experience for a fixed price. I wouldn't go with the pay as you go thing though, I rather pay a little more, but know that everything is included.

3. The guy who said "stop filming" is very rude, and I know it pisses you off, but I guarantee you that he is not the typical welcoming Moroccan. Usually 1000 people will be very warm, nice, trusting and honest, will smile, take photos, etc, but there is this typical assh**** who kills the vibe for everybody, Morocans and tourists as well. Yes you will run into this ass**** from time to time, but don't let that ruin your vacation, because more than 99% are absolutely not like that.

4. Also remind anyone like him, that you are in a toursitic area, or that you are filming in your own space, and that if he doesn't want to be filmed, he/she should go away. Report these idiots to the police if necessary, or just complain to anyone near you (taxi driver, shop owner, etc) and they will happly deal with them on your behalf, because they ruin the reputation of everyone there. There is nothing to be feared, nobody will attack you or anything. Those people are simply low low class who have nothing to lose, and bother anyone, Moroccan, or tourists, they don't care.

With this type of people, the rule is: *do not engange.* Don't talk to them, don't answer their questions, just ignore them. It is extremely unlikely that anyone will attack you verybally or phisically there, so just ignore those who make you feel unconfortable, and keep walking. On the top of that, in a Muslim country like Morocco a man will not use that tone with a woman to begin with, and preferabbly address your boyfriend/husband first, before talking to you direclty. Just to show you how rude that was by Moroccan standards, trust me.
