The actor, whose career in film and TV spanned more than 70 years, was best known for his starring role in the sci-fi series, "Quantum Leap."

One of the TV shows often not mentioned for him was JAG. He played the Secretary of the Navy in 11 episodes. And turned in an excellent and interesting performance. He played at somebody with a very strong will, very fair, and a bit shrewd.

For those of you not born in the 1940's you have a treat in that his wonderful child films are available to stream. I recently resaw "Gentlemen's Agreement", "Kim", "Down to the Sea In Ships", "Boy With Green Hair". He was a wonderful actor even as a child
