Perahia at his prime. And the magnificent Solti. Performing music that was composed some 220 years ago. Mind-boggling to think that this work will still be performed 220 years from today. Great video, thanks for sharing.

Murray Perahia recently ( 2016) gave us the definitive interpretation of the Hammerklavier sonata, in my opinion. For the first time for me, the work stood clarified, an integrated whole emerging from within all of the fearsome beauty of Beehtoven's world, which is so difficult to describe in words - the poignancy, the passion, the terror at times, and always always reaching for the infinite that lies beyond mere human understanding. All this Murray Perahia gave us in his New York appearance, a miraculous event. What fascinates is that all that deep connection to the composer's intent is present Here, in a recording he made in his youth. Genius and talent are always there; they are only more revealed with time. THANK YOU MURRAY!

The entire performance is for sure truly phenomenal. That aside, all I just wanna know is: HOW DOES HE DO IT! BEETHOVEN...an absolute seminal genius, unmatched and unparalleled in his compositional creativity. I have listened to and played much of Beethoven's musical output...he never disappoints. His music will live on to the end of time...and hopefully beyond!

Tough to imagine hearing a better Beethoven's 1st.
Solti and the LSO are luminous, shimmering, soaring, and Perahia is at his absolute best. Thanks so much for the upload.
