Mazda3 vs CX-30 | Is a Sedan or SUV Better for You?

The Mazda3 Sedan is a fantastic ride with great fuel economy. The Mazda CX-30 offers higher seating position and more cargo space. Which do you prefer?

The 2024 Mazda3 Select Sport is standard with black 18” alloy wheels, black side mirrors, dual automatic a/c, and leatherette seating. Ceramic metallic is a unique exterior color available only on the Select Sport.

The 2024 Mazda CX-30 Select Sport has the same interior features as the Mazda3 Select Sport however the CX-30 has a unique wheel design, rear air conditioning vents, and exterior black plastic cladding and rear bumper. The CX-30 as all Mazda crossovers is all wheel drive.

Both vehicles have the 2.5L SkyActiv G 4 cylinder engine with 192 horsepower and 185 lbs-ft or torque. They feature a 6 speed transmission.

The CX-30 has 20.2 cubic feet of cargo space compared to the 13.2 of the Mazda3.

I used to own the current generation Mazda 3 and still own the CX-30. Jon went over most of the differences but I add two more. The 3 is fun to drive. The 30 is OK but it's no 3 when it comes to handling.
The 3 also gets much better highway mileage. In my case, the difference was five mpg @ 70/75 mph. The 3 is just a more aerodynamic vehicle. Around town, not much of a difference (mid 20's). I'm 6'2" and I found the driving position more comfortable in the 3. My wife is 5' and she prefers the 30. Thus, that's why we now own just the 30. 😪
One more thing. The 3 handles better in the wind. You will notice the difference on windy days on the highway..

I'm glad I snagged a '23 Premium 3 sedan, as it was the last year you could get all the good stuff like Head Up Display and Bose audio with the naturally aspirated engine.

Hi Jonathan, great video! Perfect timing because at the end of November 2025 the lease ends on my 2023 CX-50. While I'd love to have another one, financial concerns are making me look to a less expensive option. That would be either a Mazda3 or CX-30. The CX-30 gives you more cargo than the Mazda3 sedan, but at the expense of $2000 more, plus poorer fuel economy.

Question: You compared a Mazda3 sedan to the CX-30. How does the Mazda3 hatchback compare in interior cargo space to the CX-30?

I have the2024 CX30GTTurbo in the ceramic white loving the colour . Here in Canada, just tried it out in the snow that we just got a couple of days ago, had to try out the all season tires, so far so good.

I wanted the CX-50 but all the QC issues make that car a risk. So i went with the Mazda 3 MT premium. Great car only issue with cars these days especially mazda is the paint chips.
