I love those classic IC trains. They remind me of the D-trains and IC & EC trains of my childhood. Also, they have huge windows compared to ICE trains, and as they are pulled by locomotives rather than having motors under most carriages, they feel quite different to travel in. No wifi, but a more pleasant experience on the whole. Travelling in them feels more likea journey, less like a "fast long distance commute".
Of course, there are other IC trains (including double deckers), but those classic ones are the best.

I did that exact journey (to Hannover) a few years ago, lovely trip - apart from the air con wasn't working in our roomette thing in the height of summer!

I think I'd prefer the seating in 2nd class - the 1st class seats seem nicer but those 6 person boxes seem built to displease - if you prefer to look out the window, you're potentially tying up a table that the people closest to the door might like to use for their laptops.

Soon possible: London to Berlin day trip with just 1 stop in Amsterdam.

The 1700 locomotive and BR101 in the IC Berlin are replaced by the BR193 from NS

I did this, catching the Stena line boat then two changes of train to get to Hengelo. The through ticket from London to Hengelo is great value and the DB fare from Hengelo to Hannover is cheap. The passage under Hannover Hbf has great food.

Thanks for posting this video! This connection will be slightly faster from December 15, 2020. No locomotive changeover in Bad Bentheim due to the use of multi-voltage locomotives and the stations Minden and Belin-Spandau will be skipped. The wish of at least the Dutch Railways is to make the entire line a high-speed line (or to run the connection via Düsseldorf), which means that the travel time between Amsterdam and Berlin from 6:30 hours now can be reduced to 3:30. - 4:00 hours.

I've ridden this train before 5 or so times from Hamburg- Rotterdam/Amsterdam. Let me tell you, this is a pretty horrible train to ride in the summer, the air con has been broken on every occasion and the train heats up very badly. Also, if you go on with an Interrail ticket, you probably won't get a seat because there is a reservation system where every ticket buys you a seat, so if you come on with an Interrail ticket you have to probably sit in one of the dirty spaces between the carriages. I'd reccomend taking a regional train via either Enschede or Hengelo!
