This is the Otis Elevator in the Bradley Osgood Building (Worcester, MA), that failed inspection. Unlike "Speedy!", this one failed for SAFETY!
Hopefully, it'll be back up and running by the Fall.

A lousy bearing? Wow.
Time for another contract with another company? That's sad.
I initially was dissapointed with the other one, being enclosed, but after hearing the chains, motor, and watched it run through the caged shaft, I changed my mind. After riding that one, I thought the one that failed couldn't have been shut down for something all that big. These oldies are built so much better than anything new, and still far more reliable.

It's a shame this one is shut down.

@Balarick
If it's like the other onw, not much to look at, except for the system itself.
(You'll see, it's the next video.)

Lawsuit pending? I wonder what they said it failed for?
The other one ran well, and did make me wonder how the other one failed. My guess, if there was a legit reason, might be the safety kicked in at too high a speed. Just a guess. What was the State claiming?

From what I understand, this elevator isn't going anywhere, anytime soon. It may be doomed to rust in peace.

@wyattbrad
OH, NO! The State really knows how to ruin a good thing. :(
Good thing I got the running one on video (it's also up here).
We can remember it the way it was.

@georgef551 The new safety regulations require a firewall in 2012, so both elevators will be shut down in the spring.

door looks nice. rest of the elevator should be similar.

The inspector claimed the bearing was going, and I disrepectfully, disagreed, so WITHOUT ALLOWING ME DUE PROCESS TO APPEAL, the inspector ordered the elevator maintenance company (Associated Elevator) to sabotage my elevator, so it would not run anymore. A shame, the elevator worked fine.

Perhaps the elevator will be upgraded to another company.

Elevator will most likely never run again. There is nothing wrong with the elevator, it works fine. The state shut it down, claiming safety. lawsuit pending...
