as much as we have that is rich and good, just imagine if all of his plays had survived. this is a perennial thought when we think of the ancient world. the richness lost to us, but still enough richness remains

This is why I spend all my time on YouTube now. You are irresistibly enthusiastic, charming, funny, smart, perfect in every way.

I’m not studying philosophy or an actor, I’m just a regular guy who loves the ancient world. It breaks my heart we lost so much knowledge. I have read the 7 surviving plays of Sophocles on my own. I did it because I took a philosophy class in college and heard about Oedipus Rex. My favorite of course is Antigone, it has stayed with me since I read it 20 years ago. She was loyal to the end! All the plays were great. I was happy to see Odysseus show up in Ajax.

And the winner of this year's competition is, to no one's surprise I'm sure... SOPHOCLES! "What, Sophocles AGAIN?! Why are the rest of us even bothering to enter these competitions??"

First! Love Sophocles and so glad you’re covering him! “Antigone” and “Electra” are some of my favorite of the ancient plays! I always find it kind of interesting and sad that we have a playwright such as Sophocles, who was immensely popular, yet only a fragment of his works survive.

That " Triangalate " is such a tremendous idea. It reminds me of ? perhaps the shift in perspective in art and the renisance. It's so hard to shift from two dimensional thinking and introversion and imagination into three dimensions of life for me. I Hope to work and study harder as a result. Thank You!!!

Of the six competitions that he lost, I would love to know who won.

I love Sophocles! One of my favorite plays is Ajax, if you could cover it that would be wonderful :)
Also, maybe a fun idea would be, doing an Euripides biography followed by a videos about Frogs.

It's actually really hard to find content about Sophocles' plays, other than Oedipus Rex and Antigone on YouTube. I'd love to watch you talk about the others :)

5:00 another reason to create a time machine: recover all the lost books, besides saving Archimedes from being killed😢

Love me some Antigone and Oedipus Rex. Watching this though, just occurred to me to ask, but is the Oedipus story a myth in the same way the other Greek myths are, just written in play form?

Absolutely love your content, thank you so much for making them!

I've actually gotten myself into reading the Iliad and the Odyssey last year and I referred back to your videos as a guide to help understand what was happening a bit more and to fact check if I understood the content in the first place and let me just tell you, you make learning and reading all of these so much fun! It's always a blast to hear your summaries because I can see you truly enjoy talking about this. So thank you again because I am very appreciative that you put the time in for these videos as well.

Now, with that being said, I've been on another journey going through Sophocles' plays since I have a book with all 7 of his surviving works and I would love to see a video about "Ajax" and "Philoctetes" since I remember those guys from the Iliad lol but really I enjoy all your content from the Homer videos so, whatever you're interested in sharing with us about the plays, I will most likely watch!

Bravo ! You know a lot and you show to us in a passion way. Sophokles, ΣΟΦΟΚΛΗΣ ΑΠΟ ΚΟΛΩΝΟΝ, sets Antigone,
a Woman, a Girl, against all State (ΚΡΕΩΝ) to defend the dead Brother, because the Justice of the Human cannot be
higher that of the Holly. Yet, ΚΟΛΩΝΟΣ, is 2.300 meters from the center of Athens, the ΑΓΟΡΑ.I live there. (what an
honour...) A Greek friend, Demetrios Maniates.
