Top US officer admits Iran invasion plan

Top US military officer Mike Mullen has admitted plans are in place for military action in Iran if diplomacy fails to end the nuclear row.

It goes without saying that if the military decides there is a threat, there IS, or soon WILL BE, several scenarios for response, but most are never actualized. Way to go, Capt. Obvious. The problem is not that there are plans to counter perceived threat, but with the accuracy of original threat assessment, and the degree of response.

@rkansas1 Yes, quite agree, in fact even the knowledge + having the material to put one or more together relatively quickly is sufficient as a deterrent.

@rkansas1 There are cooler and sober heads that are currently prevailing. These are people who consider consequences, who run the models and calculate probable responses. Strategically Iran is tough one. Unlike us it does not need to inventory a nuclear device. As long as they maintain a "threshold" programme (able to assemble a warhead in a few days should the urgency arise), it's all it takes, not having them sit in rows in hardened/protected buildings!

there is no invasion plan. He said it is always one of the options the president has. Barak is a nice president, he does not want war with anyone. It's good we have barak obama.

@rkansas1 The Strait of Hormuz is a bottle neck that has been conceded as not difficult to close by Iran. Even an attempt would send insurance cost for oil tankers sky rocketing.

@bramdean Some readers think we can keep open the straits of Hormuz to keep the oil flowing but the Iranians can shut that down w/their Weapons.Try buying food when the store shelves are empty...because not enough oil flowing and our food supply travels by trucks..

@bramdean War w/another country surely isn't an answer.Even if they had nukes, they be for protection like all who have them.No one owns nukes to have to use them.They prevent an invasion(hopefully)or they should.
