Romanian tennis star Simona Halep visited Singapore on Wednesday (July 22) for a news conference announcing the return of the WTA Finals to Singapore this October.

As the sun rose over the island city in the morning, the Romanian third seed joined a yoga session on the top of Singapore's iconic Marina Bay Sands.

After the early start negotiating her balance, the 23-year-old tennis star attended a news conference at the ArtScience Museum.

Last year, after being seeded second in the world in August, Halep went through to the finals at the WTA Finals Singapore, losing to tennis star Serena Williams.

Asked what it was like to hear the crowd cheering her name during the tournament, Halep said Singapore had made her feel at home.

"Yeah, I felt that I was home because I had many fans in the crowd and everyone was supporting me, so it was amazing, and it was I think I it was the best place which I had very big crowd supporting me. Maybe this year I will qualify again and I will have bigger crowd. So, yeah, I was enjoying and they gave me power to compete very well at the high level and I did everything I could last year to win matches and to be in the last match," she said.

Organisers at the news conference also announced a more elaborate line-up of events and programmes during this year's eight-day WTA Finals, which are to be held between October 23 and November 1.

They also announced that Paloma Faith, UK artiste and winner of the British Female Solo Artist at the 2015 Brit Awards, will be performing during an evening celebrating the best female tennis stars in the world.

Halep recently checked out of Wimbledon earlier than expected in June following a shocking 5-7 6-4 6-3 defeat by 106th-ranked Slovakian Jana Cepelova.

The result completed a miserable month for the 2014 French Open runner-up who was knocked out in the second round at Roland Garros, but has not changed her position as world number three.
