You are not alone! My first trimester was exactly the same. Just have to eat. I was able to eat eggs and my kefir smoothie in the morning thank goodness, but other than that it was Mac and cheese and barely getting bites of meat down. Like you said it’s a lifetime of good eating that prepares you for pregnancy, and your body will be fine for those few months of strange eating. Also now that I’m 30 weeks I’m able to eat all of my normal foods again, not a problem at all. So you will recover. The most important thing is you eat something, because not eating is way worse. Keep it up!

This video was hugely comforting for me, thank you for your honesty Marissa!! I'm in the 1st trimester, 8 weeks now, and I've been really struggling to find food that sounds appetizing. I had just started GAPS the month before and all that went out the window when the aversions started (especially to beef, whoa eww). At first I thought I'll just skip Stage 5&6 and start Full GAPS, but even that wasn't cutting it. So I, like you, am aiming to stick to a Weston A Price Nourishing Traditions way of eating, but sometimes take out food from restaurants is all I can make myself eat. It's not ideal but I just have to eat whatever I can manage to keep my blood sugar stable, and yes carbs sound the most palatable a lot of times. Thank you for being real here and encouraging fellow expectant moms that we are doing the best we can. You and your channel have been an immense blessing on my journey.

So encouraging to hear your honest recap. First trimester truly is just just give it your best. I’m 18 weeks now so I’m looking forward to hearing how you prepare for birth and the babies gut flora.

Thanks!

From the medical view point on morning sickness, I recommend on the top of the hour try about 4oz of some type of clear liquid like apple juice, ginger tea, 7 up made with sugar (you have to keep your glucose levels up) and on the half hour dry toast, crackers, but not a lot. Yes, this is carb loading, however, listen to your body, this is a time to eat carbs. Hormonal changes are happening fast and the baby will take the nutrients it needs from you. This method works pretty well. Especially the ginger tea, it really is a natural antiemetic. Or antivomit. Good luck to all the pregnant mommies.

Thanks for sharing! Just wondering your stance on prenatals and if you take them? I'm also wondering if your new baby will need to have the gaps diet if you have successfully completed it and gone to a more Weston Price diet. I follow the Nourishing Traditions guide to feeding a baby and I'm wondering how a mother determines if a GAPS protocol is necessary for her children. Do you just do it as a precaution?

It’s always so interesting how differently everyone’s body reacts to a pregnancy

Thank you for the video! It was helpful! I also couldn't stick to GAPS in my first trimester, things are definitely getting easier in the second trimester. Also wanted to ask your opinion about ultrasound, did you have one for the baby?

Im 11 weeks pregnant, this is my first pregnancy and I’m suffering. Nothing compares to this. I’m so sad that I’m hating every moment. The woman who say their pregnancy felt like nothing, you are lucky. To me so far is like food poisoning all day. the fatigue is beyond, sometimes I wanna give up.

Thanks for this video! I loved the update and hearing the changes you've made to your diet. I'm currently on GAPS with my daughter, but not sure what I'd do if I have another baby. This was helpful to me!

I know keto and gaps aren’t the same (some overlap) but a lot of the ketogenic diet moms were determined to keep going during pregnancy (babies use a LOT of keytones and it seems like it’d help with gestational diabetes if it helps with type 2 diabetes) but if you look at any reddit thread on the topic 90% of moms said they couldn’t deal with eggs and meats and all of the usual things. Same kind of boat as you...

An interesting thing is that the intermittent fasting ladies felt better because they were used to going for periods without food (but a day or 2 isn’t the same as a trimester especially if you don’t have like significant body fat reserves to tap into).

someone mentioned that the morning sickness might be some kind of defensive mechanism because a pregnant caveman (cave woman? haha) was most likely to get poisoned by bitter veggies or off meat. My guess is that the baby wants near starvation levels of keytones from you but who knows.

Good luck and don’t beat yourself up about your body not sticking to the plan you had for it. Just do what you need to to feel ok x

49 years ago I was pregnant with my first child. Good gravy the morning sickness lasted the whole 9 mos. But even worse were the weird cravings like spagitti and meatball and bannanas at the same time.
