Fertilizer Supplements: Is Epsom Salt Good for Orchids?

Epsom salt is extremely beneficial for your orchid’s maintenance and nutrition. Not only does it help with the production of chlorophyll, but it also aids in cell construction, proper hydration, and flushes out the orchid from salt residue. Epsom Salt will make the blooms larger and the leaves more vivid, causing no harm to your orchid.

Orchid fertilization is not a complicated subject, and the more you immerse yourself in the different possibilities, the more fascinating it gets. Well, at least for me…I once thought that fertilizing with a balanced fertilizer, 20-20-20 year-round was sufficient. Then I read about not using an orchid fertilizer with urea nitrogen in it. Then the question came up about using Epsom Salt for fertilization.

With the use of Epsom salt, there have been many questions about its use and exactly what it does.

Thank you so much for sharing Amanda! OMYGOD the Orchid you show @6:52 is absolutely GORGEOUS!! I'm happy you mentioned using tea and epsom salts for fertilizing Orchids! I also use tap water but I always leave mine out for 24-48 hours so that most of the chlorine evaporates! I have several plants such as Spider plants, Orchids and Palms that hate chlorine and my plants have been doing great since doing this!❤️🥰

Hi! As usual - you thrill me!! First, I only use rain water (collected). I have used Epsom Salts to fertilise my other plants (mostly houseplants, ferns, cacti, succulents, etc) - the times I have used it - BOOM!! Stand Back!! They've done so well! Epsom Salt is magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) - the 4 should actually be a subscript meaning that there are 4 oxygens to every 1 magnesium and 1 sulfur. There is NO iron or calcium in epsom salt.

Epsom salts, great pH down for soil/growing medium and water. I use along side vinegar and gypsum for great pH down combo. Dilute into 1quart water a table spoon vinegar, 1/8 cup Epsom and 1/4 -1/2cup of gypsum for adjusting a few plants quickly
