The thing that happened at the end: It was so loud that the Michigan team couldn't hear eachother so the play clock ran out and they got penalized for not starting to play in time.

This stadium will shake when the fans jump up and down singing, when one side of the stadium says We Are and the other side says Penn State . 107-110 thousand fans

6:10 It was so loud, the Michigan offense couldn't hear their own "snap count", essentially a count given by the Quarterback on when to "snap" the ball to put it in play. Coach Harbaugh called a timeout right before a Delay of Game penalty. Delay of Game costs the offending team 5 yards and a down.

Penn Stater here. Being in that stadium for a big game like that was always amazing. Like many of the college games you have been watching, a big section (of most of it) of the stadium is filled with alumni. You are part of the 'team' when yelling at the top of your lungs (you are the twelfth player). To be an alumnus of any of these big schools, you are a part of a big family or tribe. That is why the town grows by 100, 000 people on a football weekend

Even though the listed capacity of the stadium is just over 106, 000, it doesn't count vendors, security, medical personnel, people on the field, etc. The official attendance at this game was 110, 669. It was another amazing white out game (I'm in most of this video, lol). The decibel level was measured at 109. The crowd noise registers on the richter scale.

Lifelong Auburn fan. But a Penn State alum. US College football is the greatest sport on earth.

Just to put in perspective the alumni connection. The first apartment I rented, once out of school, was owned by a fellow Penn Stater. He was in his late 80s and lived in California, he would fly back to Pennsylvania for football weekends. He had a blue van with Penn State painted on the spare wheel cover, that he would drive to the school and meet up with fellow classmates!

Penn State's mascot is the Nittany Lion, hence the Lion King song before kickoff

I'm an Ohio State Buckeyes fan and I'll be the first to admit Penn States gets up for those white out games. That stuff is awesome. This right here, college or pro football is why soccer over here just isn't as cool. I know there's electric atmospheres all over the world but damn football is awesome

The crowd was so loud the visiting team had to call a timeout, that’s what happened.

Hi Lowell. Max capacity for Beaver Stadium (Penn St) is just over 106, 000. You could see the Mich QB clapping to try to get the play off, but they couldn't hear a thing. Also, if you noticed as they were coming in a loud roaring growl. Penn States team name is The Nittany Lions.

The atmosphere at college football games is crazy.

Being at a white out game there is no other feeling it’s pure electricity in the air and the noise is deafening

White out is one of the best college atmospheres for sure. 100k+ inside and another 25k outside.

Possibly the best environment for the opening of a game going right now? I like the video of the perspective on the field as the players walk out.

After a play is finished, they have 40 secs to hike the ball. They didn't hike the ball therefore they got a penalty/flag. The play clock is the numbers next to 1st on the bottom right of the screen

The chant symbolizes unity, pride, and inclusion. The phrase "We Are" is meant to convey that all Penn Staters—students, alumni, fans, and faculty—are united as one community. But the deeper meaning is tied to a powerful story rooted in diversity and racial integration:

In the 1940s, Penn State’s football team was invited to play in the Cotton Bowl against the segregated Southern Methodist University (SMU).
SMU reportedly requested that Penn State not bring its two Black players, Wally Triplett and Dennie Hoggard.
The team met and responded unanimously: "We are Penn State. There will be no meetings. If they can’t play, we won’t play."
As a result, Penn State brought its full team, including the Black players, and this stand became a defining moment of unity and equality in the school's history.
While the exact origins of the chant in terms of sports use aren’t precisely documented, this story has become a foundational part of the chant’s legacy, embodying solidarity and standing together against injustice.
