Actually, things don't totally disappear behind the lens, it is just that the image is shifted such that if you see the from the front, then the object would appear to be invisible but if you change your perspective (angle) towards the lens, the object will be visible.
You can still see in the video, he doesn't move his hand all the way through the lens, because that would obstruct the lens and will end the illusion trick !
