Gives me chills to hear these old Dread Ashanti songs. So lucky to have had them as a neighborhood band as a kid in the 90s. I have a vivid memory of being...uhm...elevated..one night, and riding our bikes into Lanikai to see them play a house party. We could hear them from down the block, the scent of cannabis getting stronger the closer we got. I remember coming around the corner down a long driveway, and there was the band and about a hundred young (at heart) people having a great time and dancing to this fantastic music. I will never forget what this looked like and what it meant to me as far as what I learned music was about. I've seen hundreds of shows since then; from huge stadium shows to sweaty basements packed with kids for van-touring punk bands. And that Dread Ashanti memory is absolutely up there in the top 10.
