This was a bit before my time but I remember clearly my older sister and brother getting dressed up to go to Noric club in seven sisters, my brother in his farah slacks and Gabicci cardigan and snake skin shoes, my sister in her blouse, pleated skirt and fur coat (before peta existed lol) even as a child this music affected me very deeply and looking back it makes me super proud as this was the true expression of black British culture, somewhere between our Caribbean roots and our UK existence What an incredible era it was!

I remembered our house turning into a pre- party pure lovers rock blasting out whilst everyone got ready to hit the clubs. I was so jealous couldn't wait to grow up.
Don't tell anyone my sister did sneak me out on my 15th birthday, I got dressed up in her whole attire yes the box pleated skirt, tie up blouse, fur coat and croc shoes. I felt so grown up especially when I had my first dance.

In spite of the hardships, no steady job, poor housing, not much food, etc. I had nothing to lose and everything was a possibility. I look back on these times as the better days of my life. Good music, good people, places to go, up and coming British Lovers. Where did all the time go? When I hear all this beautiful music, just for a moment, I am transported back. Happy days.
