I'm surprised you didn't mention Wole Soyinka. Great video, though. I hope you do more of these so I can expand my knowledge of African literature. Thanks, Jason.

Ohh, I didn't know I could look for that orange band at the top of the spine, good tip! I've bought most of my African Classics on Better World Books. I read A Grain of Wheat by Ngugi last year and want to get into more of his works. Have you read/acquired Song of Lawino / Song of Ocol? It was originally written in the Acoli and the author translated it into English. I was reminded of it while reading My Sister Killjoy in the scene where the narrator is arguing with the other students about why they should go back to Africa after receiving their education. Song of Lawino is about a woman who's husband did just that and it's essentially her laments against the colonial ways he's attempting to bring into her home. Really great read!

I own a copy of Our Sister Kill Joy and God's Bits of Wood. I'm hoping to read God's Bits of Wood soon. I've read Xala by Sembène. Do you have any of the African Poetry Book series? I've read a couple of those from my university library.
