❤ my experience as a a queer man who has been practicing for about a year now: no other Buddhist I’ve spoken to is ever interested in my sexuality, at least not in an obvious way. It can be said I am “obviously gay” as I’m gently effeminate (I think this makes me a better Buddhist to be honest) but those versed in the Dhamma never ask about it, but that doesn’t seem to be out of distaste. Rather, I often share with people (when it comes up in conversation) that I’ve actually taken a vow of abstinence from sex since I began my journey. It’s better for me for a number of reasons. And I guess from there, they think, well, then the 3rd precept is safely unbroken with this one.

Those who do not know the Dhamma often are shocked by the statement. This is not a value judgment on those who are not living by the Buddha dharma, as I still do many things that are not proper according to our religion and I am working on this. No, not a critique. This is simply me sharing my experience to inspire the question, “what truly is my identity? Is it ‘gay’ because I like
Men, even though I do not experience sex? Am I Buddhist even tho I don’t follow every aspect of the dharma perfectly? What even is the self?” Once you begin to deeply investigate the things you identify with, you may begin to realize they are less than solid, containing blurred edges, and all aspects of your personality are inseparable from the things we think we are not. We are both, and we are neither.

We all suffer in different ways. I agree whole heartedly and believe this group of people are just as human as anyone.

It depends on who you ask. Some Buddhists are very conservative and are opposed to gayness.
