As a Filipino battered by both Yolanda and Odette, I wish safety and a speedy recovery for those living in Northern Vietnam and Southern China.

Hanoi here: it looks Yagi has passed the Red River Delta; wind was far weaken as forecasted, only about 50 mph; rainfall as well, only around 100 mm/d although still happening.

THE SITUATION? IN HO CHI MINH? you have got to be kidding me. You guys could have gone onto tiktok and found someone talking about the storm and interviewed them instead.
HERE'S THE NEWS:
- (YESTERDAY) A woman died in Hanoi due to a falling tree caused by a freak thunderstorm and typhoon like conditions around 3 to 4pm. Traffic was absolute carange, as I drove home from work both cars and motorbikes completely ignoring the red lights so seeing massive pile ups all over Hanoi.
- Usually typhoons don't come near Vietnam, usually they get pushed more north so as for preparation I feel as though the government did the best they could but it was predicted winds would decrease as it moved more inland. Anyone out in the storm either has a job to do or is stubborn and doesn't believe it's that bad. But the Vietnamese people seemed to have rallied together to help one another such is their culture.
- Vietnam does catch the edges of typhoons within the South China Sea/ Philippines Sea region with occassional flooding, usually more below Ho Tay Lake in the city center (not the french quarter like Hoan Kiem).
- There's conflicting reports whether the storm passed just above the Red River (windy app) or if it went through Hanoi (Google maps alert). But it seems like the typhoons power is obviously caused by the ocean temperature and that unstable weather.
- (TODAY) Some minor power outages around the capital but not too much damage as of yet. We will know more tomorrow as rain is expected to continue yet winds will be calming down thus making travel more of a possibility.
- At least 4 people dead in Vietnam so far.

Wishing that the families most affected will be ok.

Hey, DW: Your typhoon animation spinning the wrong direction. It should be counterclockwise.

Coming from the disaster prone country, Japan I do sympathise with the natural disaster victims. No words express enough for the loss of life. Natural disasters are enough. Absolutely NO to human caused disasters, nuclear weapon devemopment, and wars.

How can a DW correspondent staying most of his time in his apartment in Taipei know what’s happening in East Asia? We know why the quality of news media is so low these days.

Prayer to everyone. Please stay safe. Hope all over soon.

hot water in SSC powered YAGI a lot, most its energy is released in HaiNan province of China. Vietnam is much safer.

Storms sometimes come North Viet Nam in Sept. Then, Storms often move to Central Viet Nam in monsoon from October to December with flooding. South Viet Nam sunny all time 😢.
