Lost fishing gear survey & removal Malta 2016

The problem with lost fishing gear is enormous and can not be expressed in hard numbers. It is found in all #seas, oceans and inland waters at all depths, along the beach shore and under the sand. We think the problem never can be resolved completely but we can keep it from getting worse by showing the problem to the public and the authorities. The fact it is not visible above the surface does not mean it does not exist. As #divers, we can make a difference because of our presence #underwater since we see a lot more than the average people.

From January 31 - February 1, 2016 we executed 4 lost fishing gear survey and removal dives in Malta together with Healthy Seas and the Global Ghost Gear Initiative. The result and photos of the action are shown at the SeaWeb Seafood Summit 2016 finding place at the same time. We thank diving center Techwise Malta for their tremendous support!
