You're a life saver! My UV-5R wouldn't even let me talk on the FRS ONLY stations. I had to press it at a weird angle and had to press the buttons pretty hard for it to work, so it was trial and error many times before I figured it out. But thanks for the video!

Mine will transmit on our 2 meter repeater in town but it’s a dud on our state wide linked GMRS network in Arkansas

Hi Just picked up 2 UV-5R radios and both are locked. I tried this procedure to unlock without success on both the radios. After sometime messing around I was able to get the factory message and successfully unlock. Similar process but you have to press the call button on the side as well. So there are 4 buttons you have to press now then turn power on.
Press all three on left of radio and VFO turn power on and it should display factory.

I just got a uv5r8w like literally last week, put the GMRS freq's in with chirp, and it will tx... I guess I lucked out?
