I think Scott isn't giving the Syrians their due. Talking about how the Iranians and Russians did all the heavy lifting in Syria. They helped a lot, but I was following the Syrian war from its early days, and I remember following the way the Syrian Arab Army fought so hard to liberate the whole Lebanese border region in the Zabadani and al-Quseir offensives, long before the Russians came in. I remember the way the Syrian Arab Army stood alone in Deir Ezzor, the Leningrad of Syria, for YEARS under siege, and they held out successfully until their comrades broke through Palmyra and came to link up with them. I remember the way the Syrians fought so hard to hold Aleppo, and then to liberate it from the takfiris. I remember the Syrian Air Force soldiers who held out under siege in the Kuweires airbase east of Aleppo, for such a long time, fighting off wave after wave of Daesh attacks. I remember reading the articles about the bones of Daesh fighters that littered the ground all around the Kuweires airbase. The Syrian Arab Army fought like heroes. They did an incredible job. They were helped significantly by Iran and Russia, but they were fighting hard long before Iran and Russia got in there in any real strength. The collapse of Syria was a horrifying shock, but I don't believe it was because the Syrian soldiers weren't capable of fighting, there was something else going on there. I do believe the Syrians made mistakes, I believed for years that it was a terrible error to allow the takfiris to evacuate to Idlib from all the little pockets around Syria as the SAA liberated them one by one. But the Syrians truly did fight hard for their country against this Salafist invasion, and they should be given their due. Hopefully even though Syria has now fallen, we haven't heard the last from the patriotic Syrians who may yet try to take back their country from this Turkish/takfiri abyss.
