The Shaman Village has to be the most tranquil area in the entire game, which is something I NEVER thought I'd say about a souls game, but here we are!

SPOILERS if you want to know about Marika’s cruel fate:
.
.
.
.

We can learn a few things from piecing together the descriptions of the golden braid, minor erdtree and the spirit's dialogue in Bonny Village, namely that the shaman village was Marika's home. It was there where her people were slaughtered by the hornsent to become jar "saints" and she would begin her path of vengeance and ascent to godhood. As Leda remarks of the hornset "They were never saints. They just happened to be on the losing side of a war".
After putting the hornsent to the sword with the power of the base serpent within Messmer and an army of tarnished, Marika would reach the top of Enir-llim and the gate of divinty. It was here she sought to create a perfect world where nobody would truly die again and would erase any signs of the existence of the crucible and its people who wronged her. Marika would return to her village and sprout a minor erdtree to show them just how far she had come, but nobody remained...
During her reign as god and vessel of the Elden Ring, Marika would birth many demigod children, however in a cruel twist of fate, her and Godfrey would birth the omen twins. Her own flesh and blood bore the traits of the very people who committed atrocities against her family and loved ones. After everything Marika did, even after ascending to godhood she still could not deny the reality of the crucible of life and so they were exiled to the depths below the royal capital.
As undeniable as the crucible of life, is the fact that it must end. Marika likely plucked the rune of death from the Elden Ring so nobody she loved may die again but tragedy would strike again for Marika. Her golden child, perfection incarnate, Godwyn would suffer the first death of a demigod and so Marika would learn she could not escape the nature of the world, not even in godhood.
Perhaps this led to the shattering of the Elden Ring, an act of vengeance on false promises or perhaps she realized Metyr's fingers were in fact broken from the

start, either way it adds a lot to the character of Marika and the overall story of the game.

The body where you find the golden braid isn't marika's body but probably her grandmother's. This was probably a village of numen that was wiped out by the hornsent

I dont think that is Marikas body, the decription says she offered a braid of her golden hair to the grandmother. So i would think the body in the tree is the grandmother

I don’t ever think I would have found the way to Bonny village without this help. The jump there was still stupidly hard

Messmer's knight is locked behind a door. What key is needed and where is it? I'm surprised nobody asked.

1. You can jump on the arms of the marika statue before you drain the statue.

2. Cant believe that Marika staue with the emote. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I tried doing as much of the DLC without looking up Youtube videos for help and got almost all of it other than Hinterland. I have spent easily 80-100 hours on the game and eventually had to look it up and have defeated almost every single boss other than the Hinterland area and knew I hadn't been there. I did all of that back of the Store and Church District area and never realised about this. SO FRUSTRATING for me! But thank you so much for your help dude!

This dlc is heavily norse, even more so than the normal game.

So the Shamans were used to feed whatever mass of flesh was seen in the trailer due to their ability to reshape themselves as “potentiates” in the jars. Marika might’ve just started on a massive revenge plot

5:35 body of marika herself? more likely the grandmother.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD! Wait a second🫸🏻! Then these so-called "shamans" were Numen and the ancestors of the Nox, who evoked the ire of the Greater Will, so they were "spirited away" and Marika for some reason wasn't? (Maybe by then she already bacame an empyrean or a god potentially?) That means she never knew where they had gone, or maybe she thought that all were killed, hence the Minor Erdtree incantation description: "Marika bathed the village of her home in gold, knowing full well that there was no one to heal." So then she devised some master plan to take revenge on the Greater Will/or to create a deathless order where nothing like what happened to her people can happen again and to achieve that, she betrayed/sacrificed the hornsent people only to discover that her folks were well and alive when they came to kill her son? 🫢 Then it would make more sense to me why she was driven to the brink after that incident. Because she realized that all the cruelty and suffering she caused for the sake of aformentioned was for nothing. So she shattered the Elden Ring to kill herself?! Just an idea. 🤷🏻‍♀️
