i think it should be read as 017912 instead if 018912 because the church is within the grid of 017 with respect to East or point of origin.

A coordinate always starts from the south-west corner of the grid square and counts from the west to the east and from the south to the north. Always beginning from the south-west corner of the grid square 01 91.
The right notation for the Farringdon curch is 017 912. If someone gives me 018 912 i wil never find the church because i wil search in the east- and north direction . So the church is behind me, i never wil find her.
What do you do if you give a 10 m coordinate (8 figure grid reference)? That wil be 0178 9122. How to explain that the same location has two different grid references?
In your example i need to go to the reference point and then return some hundred meters. Never seen this before.

Anyways I thought when you are Finding four and six figure grid reference you are suppose to go along the corridor and up the stairs not🧠
falling from birj Khalifa and jogging your street you get the concept
