It’s about the spending. Get rid of debt.

Here is the deal: I don't have a car. I don't have cable or any streaming services or subscriptions. I never eat out -- breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I don't drink anything but water --- ever. I don't gamble, smoke, or do any drugs. I don't go on vacations. No Gyms or Spas. No coffee or booze, as noted earlier. I don't use the internet to buy anything -- ever. Practice this and you can easily live off of about 20k a year. Practice this, and truly retire early or retire stress free. What I do: Library, outdoor exploring/hiking, Reading, Exercise, Cook, Love, Tennis.

I have been saying this all along. A 1/3 of people have nothing! Anything they get they spend and save nothing. Live for today!

Thanks for laying out the statistics so clearly Josh, it lets me worry a lot less. I may be below the average on some points but i'm way above the median on others. So thanks for this information that you put together and clearly present. My wife and I will be just fine as long as the dollar doesn't die; which is what some YT channels are talking about nowadays.

I don’t believe any of these data. Not even close if I look around me. People are driving fancy cars and take expensive vacations.

I always wonder if these are individual numbers or household numbers?

Money can be in so many other places than retirement accounts.

I think I could live on only SS and with a $1, 000 mo part time job, I might continue to contribute a little to my IRA to age 75. A lot can happen until then. My 401K might be reserved for things that I don't absolutely need. The future is variable, but my intentional spending is low.

Gotta use the median. Throw out the top 1 percent and the average drops to prob 150k 45-55😂

Its not about how much you make, but how much you keep. Get out of dept and live below your means. Thats the key.

Another question would be what is the average or median amount of accounts people hold. Most people have had a few jobs with a retirement plan so more than likely they have more than one account

Do we know if this if a persons total money or just account totals. Because many people have multiple retirement accounts. ie....IRA's, 401's, 403's

Who do you think did better? 2 million bucks in retirement savings and dies at 75 or 10k in retirement savings living on social security and dies at age 98?

Josh, my IRA is 25% of my portfolio. Do these numbers include taxable accounts?

Well I have less than the average but more than the median. I would have had more than the average, except I gave it all to my ex in a divorce. So if married couples have double of the median of a single person, they aren't poor as it only cost a fraction more to have two people in a household versus one, and they have double the income.

The older group that doesn’t have a retirement account. Can we assume they have a pension?

Does that include the money stuffed in mattresses?😂
