Comparing Growth Rates Between UPA And NDA Tenures: Experts Discuss | Budget 2024

Engaging debate ensues regarding the economic growth rate difference between UPA's regime (2004-2014) with an average of 6.82% and NDA's tenure (2014-2024) averaging 5.84%. The conversation heats up as Jain Sinha is asked to evaluate whether UPA can claim a better growth record or if such a comparison is unfair due to the COVID-19 pandemic that marked two years of the NDA's tenure. The comparison is criticized as 'thoroughly unfair' and it's argued that the inherited economic status of the two parties and their subsequent handling are critical factors to consider. The debate brings into focus India's economy, its growth trends, and the impact of political regimes on it.

There is a say in English “You can’t compare apples with oranges”. Obviously it’s an unfair comparison.. You have to exclude outliers i.e. COVID period!

Why were you not aware of this??

If 1 becomes 2, the growth rate is 100%..., If 4 becomes 5, the growth is only 25%...eventhough the increase in both cases are 1..The point is, the much bigger economy that came about under the bjp...may show a lower growth rate...eventhough in absolute terms ...the growth may be much, much greater..This is the reason why most developed countries have lower growth rates ...compared to developing countries...

People will be under perennial poverty if you keep producing more children per family in total disregard to nation's health.Ibviously, unemployment of huge population will lead to poverty and strain on welfare measures.😢

GDP of Bharat-
2004 - 0.7T$
2014 - 2T$ [MMS Era = 2.83x]
2024 - 4T$ [Modi Era = 2x]
Factor - 1.41 [MMS divided by modi]

GDP of the World-
2004 - 44.2T$
2014 - 80T$ [1.81x]
2024 - 101T$ [1.26x]
Factor - 1.43 [Decade 1 / Decade 2]

Conclusion = The World GDP was growing 43% faster in the 2004 - 2014 decade compared to 2014 - 2024. But the GDP of Bharat was growing only 41% faster. (slower by 2 % points.)

In other words = Modi = 70% MMS' GDP Growth Rate.
But the World during modi = 69% of that era's growth rate.

During the MMS era, the world was also growing at a higher rate. so we were part of the world's growth. but right now the world is facing a recession but we are the fastest growing economy in the world. [This is because of the successful economic policies of Modi.]

So, Modi achieved more in his tenure (by 1 percentage point.) All while performing exceptionally well on other parameters including culture revival, national (border and internal) security, financial stability, growing foreign reserves, anti-corruption drive, huge infrastructure push, firm foreign policy, highly qualified cabinet instead of naamdaar cabinet, basic amenities for the poor (food, water, electricity, internet, sanitation, affordable healthcare, LPG, houses, loans for startups, lakhpati didi for women empowerment and direct transfer to jan dhan accounts!), digital infrastructure, fastest 5G Rollout, mostly good COVID handling (including vaccines), all time high FDI, increasing the minimum income for income tax from 2.5lac to 7lac, a very successful G20 summit, privatising bleeding and inefficient PSUs and revamping our railway sector (NHRCL, RRTS, Metro, Vande and Amrit Bharat Trains.)

Just seeing the GDP numbers are not enough. we were part of 'the fragile five.' rampant corruption everywhere. Inflation- out of control, NPAs- out of control. the entire banking sector in crisis. None of these problems exists now. Ease of doing business, opening a start-up, getting funding, self-help groups... all these are achievements of the Modi govt. We are a stable economy now. The world is betting on us.

Landmark steps like demonetisation (which mostly failed because of non-cooperation from corrupt bank workers.), GST [A major step which is widely appreciated] and the unavoidable lockdown of 2020-21 were directly responsible for a short-term negative effect on our GDP. but we have only grown ever since.

BJP is a party for Bharat and not for any particular religion. Only the BJP can write the Bharat Growth Story. The story of the reclamation of our lost glory.

GDP came to 5% in 2019 before covid. Before that, they changed GDP calculation to increase it by 2%, and they have audacity to say comparison is unfair.

Unemployment rate Under
UPA govt - 5.5%
NDA govt - 6.3%

Rupee has fallen under
UPA - 31%
NDA- 41%

Stock market booming under
UPA - 4 times
NDA - 3 times
According to "buisness standard" Indian income inequality at 100 years high, worst then colonial era.

We see more developments during BJP. Digital money transaction, national highways, welfare development schemes, securing our borders, article 370 and less corruption. MMS was good person, but inept PM and was always under the hook of Sonia.

Last point, UPA has low base GDP compared to NDA. Its easy to grow low GDP base. Imagine USA growing at 5% is amazing, while bangladesh growing at 5% is mediocre.
