Ask GN 66: Did You Make ROI on Titan V? Buy or Wait Ryzen+?

preview_player
Показать описание
This Ask GN talks about whether we made ROI on the Titan V, giving some business perspective, and about whether you should buy or wait for Ryzen2/Ryzen+.

00:57 - Buy or wait for Ryzen+/Ryzen2?

05:35 - Did You Make ROI on the Titan V?

11:07 – Rapta: “#askgn-questions @Steve Burke Why does the performance of Nvidia cards scale with core count when looking within the same architecture, but doesn't for AMD cards?”

13:50 - Dayne_ofStarfall: “#askgn-questions In your Titan V video where you test the limit of PCIe you said that Rise of the Tomb Raider is not a good benchmark title. This is strange to me as I see the game on almost every GPU/CPU benchmark out there. Can you explain why you think Rise of the Tomb Raider is not a good benchmarking title?”

23:51 – Karl: “#askGN Can I use the GN Anti-Static ModMat as an oversized mousepad? Is it spill resistant?”

Usual "Ryzen 2" isn't necessarily the same as "Zen 2" disclaimer (but it probably should be built on Zen 2 uarch, if only to reduce confusion). We'll see what they do for naming, but the specification information remains the same: It'll be a "+" process with fine tuning, not a uarch overhaul.

I find it very funny that he is too honest to oversell his own product. His careful explanation of "this is not a mouse mat" along with the advantages and disadvantages of it's use as one had me chuckling. Honesty is nice to see. Just don't ever try to sell used cars.

[Question] Why do most newer ATX cases lack a side panel vent which can be used to install a fan for more direct airflow for the VRMs on the motherboard? From doing builds in a number of different cases, if using a CLC to cool the CPU, when a case had a side panel fan that provided direct airflow to the VRM, even when heavily overclocked, the VRM heatsinks would only range from warm to slightly hot to the touch, while on a case with no side panel fan, even with good cable management, the VRM heatsinks always ended up significantly hotter, though nothing that would give you immediate burns on your skin if touched.

With this in mind, along with more and more users moving to CLCs, why aren't more case makers pushing for side panel mounted fans to give the VRMs more direct airflow?

After watching several of your recent video's, I was struck by your open and honest reviews, and hardware fixes. Very refreshing! Subscribed and liked!

Do you think you would ever do a fan roundup and conpare things like price, performance, acoustics, and other features.

What if they made a PCB for a graphics card that DID have holes in it to allow for airflow? I don't know much about PCB layouts but are the traces so dense that there really isn't any space to drill holes through?

Ask GN: is there an update on the RX 480 power draw? I assume the mobo survived?

Everything else (in the first hour) that was at least a question and not complete cancer or already answered (to my knowledge) in a past AskGN.

Hey GN! I am wanting to complete my setup for my computer with a new GPU and the last 2 monitors. I have 2x 29" 1080p ultra wide monitors and I am buying 2 more 34" 1440p monitors. What graphic card setup do I need to run all 4 monitors? I will only game on one of the 34" monitors and can use DisplayFusion to turn off any other monitors if necessary. I currently have a 6700k, 32GB ram, 800W EVGA G2. Just need to know best GPU setup to run 4 ultrawide monitors(2x 29" 1080, 2x 34" 1440p) Gaming on only 1 34" 100hz gsync. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

I have a question: I live in Rio and our summer just started. We easily have 35C during most of the day, with maximum of 40C sometimes. To make it better, I have an i7 7700K. Right now I'm using an air cooler, with 50C in idle and 80C+ under load. I'm thinking about buying an AIO, but prices here aren't helping. So, at what price disparity does the difference between 120, 240 and 360 AIOs start to be worth it?

Real question but has AMD actually been shipping vega to the server/supercomputer market as that seems like that was what it was solely designed for with gaming as an afterthought and do you think they are making enough money of the supercomputer sales to get them enough money to fund a real competitor. Basicly is and making profit on the vega architecture as a whole

megascrapper24 minutes ago
What will happen if you use a modern desktop CPU without any heatsink? Will it thermal throttle aggressively or will it simply refuse to turn on because there is no cooler detected?

Michał Halczuk13 minutes ago
"AMD tends to be memory limited"
Is it really? From your Vega 56 review, the card gained ~4, 7% performance while overclocking HBM by 19%, wouln't the gain be more linear if the card was memory bandwidth limited?
4, 7% might come from lower latencies of overclocked HBM, rather than higher bandwidth.

@askGN What are your recommendations for PSU's. I just bought a seasonic 550w platinum for 95€ and I am wondering, why nobody is recommending it, is something wrong with it?

This might be a slightly off topic question, but how does your usual upload look? I have the impression that a lot of "smaller" youtubers (looking towards you, Science studio etc., nothing huge like Jay or Linus) spend some time in the comment section liking and responding to comments after the upload. is that true?

>>> Less interesting crap.

TLDR- socketed GPUs

The other day I saw a comment on a video of someone asking/wishing that one day you would have GPUs that were sold as CPU (small package that you fit in to a slot and it's ready to go) because it would save a lot of room in the case, he did point out that maybe mobo's would need to become slightly bigger not only a few cm. Another person brought up the AMD/Intel partnership on their mobile gpcpus which doesn't seem to be a good example. First thing that came to my mind were bios compatibility issues, lackluster VRMs memory compatibility the need for two extra VRM's (one for the chip another for the memory), the need for AMD/Nvidia to sell the packages to consumers and the need of a common socket for both and so on. Can you gives your opinion on this one and can you come up with reason it would be a good/bad idea.
thank you love your work

What's your honest guess for the gaming versions of Volta release frame? Would late Q1 be likely?

Are Ryzen and Zen being confused/intermixed? Ryzen 2 is Zen+ and Zen 2 (7nm, 2019) is likely to be Ryzen 3? It seems everyone uses these differently across the internet :p

#AskGN If at all possible could you revisit your review of elite dangerous with current generation components? I would love to see what one could run it with now and still have 60(+)fps with the highest quality presets.
By the way thank you gamers nexus for all of your content and work.

QUESTION Why dont PSU mfr's emply more mounting holes in their units for alternative mounting possibilities? OR Would drilling holes in my PSU for alternative mounting possibilities void my warranty?
