The city should have made this right many years ago. God bless those who are suffering.

People would be surprised on how many new subdivisions are built on top of what use to be landfills. Just look at Avondale. They build those landfills so high and literally wait 15 to 20 years for the trash to settle and build new subdivisions on top of them.

In Atlanta I grew up by the landfill off Moreland. You can still see the blue flames from I-285. There is an on going dispute about these same thing in the city of Atlanta . The soil has high levels of all type of chemicals in African American, home owning, communities. Most residents are old. Hopefully they get justice.

They closed all the jets in New Orleans and it’s making it bad because a lot of ppl can’t find nowhere to live so with the stress that’s going on that’s why it’s sooo much killing kids don’t have nothing like we used to have to keep us occupied for the weekends all kinds of community projects for the kids now it’s nothing. Everything is gone down in New Orleans and to look at it now I’m like I’m born and raised in New Orleans and it’s just totally different now

A lot of Houston neighborhoods were built on top of a landfill

Meanwhile, did they forget Thomy Lafon was built on top of a cemetery! First, second and third graders located skeleton bones under the breezeway. I was the last generation of the OLD Thomy Lafon. We were bused to James Weldon Johnson, in the early 80's. Not sure why Gayarre students were bussed there as well. It was a disaster! Multiple wards of students in one school.

What happened to the money from the Superfund decision? Seems like it could be used to help folks relocate.

If people knew this was a land fill, it should have been investigated further.

Oh that's nothing I lived in a apartment complex that was built on top of a landfill and the new landfill was open and operating right nextdoor so I'm not surprised at all and yes they dumped everything there medical waist from the hospital and the corpses of the euthanized animals and when the wind shifted in the summer it was horrible 😳💯

This should’ve never happened. They should’ve taken care of this a long time ago. The reporter is beautiful.
