My theory is that the destroyed earth planet is full of Easter eggs. How much you want to bet if you land around the location where the commonwealth would have been on earth, you find a half buried vault door.

Just saying, a company with a series of games all about surviving the end of the world in massive bunkers, making a game about the world being destroyed… there’s got to be something there.

Sometimes easter eggs to other games are just easter eggs. Long before shared universes were super popular, dropping a reference to another work made by the same creator, or even stuff that ISN'T under the same corporate banner, was just something an artist or director might do to have a shout-out at something they liked.

Bethesda literally confirmed in interviews that there is no flying between atmosphere and space. They are instanced off from each other. Todd literally explained it and why they chose to do it.
