And therein lies the problem - The Civil Service

The corruption is out of control and it runs from the top down. From the self serving MP's to their business friends down through the public services and councils. Shockers the lot of them!

My friend works for nursing agency and she gets twice as much as directly working for NHS. The agency make a fortune. That's where you NHS money goes.

It's not just because we "spend billions on agency staff", it's because we are funding the health of hundreds of thousands of people who do not contribute any money towards the NHS and for treatment that the NHS was not set up to fund.

Well said Jeff, I am sick of NHS bureaucrats hiding behind and blaming politicians for their wholly inadequate performance. Get rid of two thirds of non-medical staff and watch the performance of the NHS improve.

We are too top heavy with managers for managers and any locon doctors get twice as much. Banking nurses get more also, . Doctors need to be, private or NHS not both! It's a joke! ✌️🇬🇧

This has been going on for years Jeff. Unless the NHS is disbanded, it will never stop.

Something tells me that the owners of those agencies will have strong political ties, or even be related to certain politicos. It happens the same way in the US, too.

The NHS must establish its own Agency, and not use private agencies.

I've had many conversations with healthcare workers about this.
Many nurses work 1 or 2 days a week for the NHS and then 3 or 4 days via the agency.
They love it because they can dramatically boost their income. The NHS is too stupid to sort this mess and it's been going on for years

Over 30 years ago a 'friend' of mine qualified as an NHS nurse. She was married with children so the NHS bent over backwards to fit her working shifts into her homelife. ie: she could only work part time, very limited hours. All good, very nice management. Then my 'friend' went to a private agency and worked her own job in her own hospital at THREE TIMES the pay, at times when she'd told the NHS she could not work. All legal, but damned immoral surely.

Broken Britain, broken EU.

Sorry to hear about that lady. She sounded like a good `un.

Change is so badly needed in our political system, it is rotten to the core.

You are so right Jeff-NHS needs a clean sweep, from top to bottom

£5000 per shift for an agency supplied doctor, apparently.
Nevermind, it's only ta-payer's money, and we know their view of the tax-payer.

Many of the nurses I know have holiday homes abroad, work part-time and make up hours through agency work which pays much more than a regular salary. It's been like this since I worked in the NHS twenty years ago.
The privatisation of services was the worst thing the caring sharing government did!

I'm a retired nurse, this has been so for ever.
