Born on 25th of July, 1922 in Jena, Germany, he is an American materials scientist and a solid-state physicist. He won his Nobel prize for Chemistry in 2019 at the age of 97 years for the 'identification and development of lithium-ion batteries'. M. Stanley Whittingham and Akira Yoshino were the other two of the three joint recipients of the award that year.
