A very good practice drill. Key is the set up. Do not stop too close to the rear bumper of the vehicle in front of you and behind either the right or left tail light depending on the "better" of the two escape paths. A good rule I like to practice in a car or a bike when stopping behind a car is that you must be able the see their rear tires. If you cannot see the rear tires you're too close to their rear bumper.

I agree with every point in this video... I will 'mention' that even if you DO 'clip' the vehicle in front, or even the one beside you as you 'squeeze in'...that is FAR better than getting crunched in-between vehicles! ... And if the car you were behind gets HIT by the inattentive driver, a bump from your saddle bag isn't going to be noticed! (-;
Speaking of which...if the stopped vehicle DOES get hit...you want to be moving toward a 'safe zone' further than into the 4' space...if at all possible, or you will STILL get hit by the vehicles and / or flying debris...

I was rear ended the other night, I was giving way at a complete stop. In 1st, next thing I know I'm at the side of the road with a London cab behind me. No traffic, driver just was not paying attention. His excuse "I thought you had gone"

I usually rev my engine if the car behind me does not slow down, I also press n release the brake so my brake light flickers so in most cases I have the attention of the car driver approaching me from behind

Best way to avoid collisions is to maximize your visibility.  This means wearing a white helmet, high-vis jacket, installing an extra set of rear lights, preferably LED and mounted up high.. and flash the brake lights when stopped.  The rider in this vid is doing none of these.  Plus he's blocking the tail light of the car in front, which is brighter than his.

Really? Blend in with the tail light of the car in front of you? No thanks. The best advice is to sit between both lanes of traffic on the painted line when stopped, this way there's no chance of you being sandwiched.
