Rasmus Andersson – Software Painter, Playbit

Did you ever notice your cursor is solid when you’re typing but blinking when you’re not, and that is true in every text editor? There are hundreds of primitives in UI design that started small—little choices made by designers—and later turned into norms used by the industry. But when building a new product, how do you decide when to go with the familiar and when to break the mold? In this talk we will explore this topic through the lens of the past, the early days of building products like Spotify and Figma, and considerations for the future.

haha "anything created before you were born is old and boring. Anything invented before you are 30 is exciting and cool. And anything invented after you are 30 is just wrong." Love that quote 😄Also, great presentation! Very unique insights

Great talk Rasmus, Right click on MacOS also works for press > move > release. The menu also correctly closes on outside click without triggering any other click action.

Figma doesn't change the cursor for interactive menus, Is this due to how figma is rendered in the web.

18:10 double touch to spool video (±10s rewind) is pretty commonplace.
I do it without thinking on videos on my phone.

I would be curious to know the source of their opinions. Did they perform usability testing? Other?
