I told everyone this is a last ditch effort by Ukraine. Russia stills has troops in reserve, if Kyiv weakens itself too much, Russia may turns its attention towards Kharkiv again or worse towards Odessa. Donbass will be chomped away part by part by Russia. This is a hard reality. Ukraine may loose negotiation points and be forced into a unfavorable surrender. The U.S proxy game has gone rotten.

Counter-offensive will take years if Ukraine has the willpower to do it. The fact is the counter-offensive should never be announced, the Russians did a blitzkrieg style of invasion of Ukraine and Ukrainians were not ready at all but as soon as things started to really break down for Russians they dug in and I assume mined the front lines heavily hearing all the counter-offensive talk. Progress will be slow with multiple Russian defensive lines, Ukrainians are in for much more hardship unfortunately.
